Many thanks for my acceptance to this fine forum. I have watched this Forum grow, thanks to the hard work of the founders and I have coveted a place at the table here.  Thanks again for being here and sharing your knowledge and expertise on the Dan Wesson Six-gun.

I'm a long time po-po here in Columbus Georgia, like 40+ years now, and truly enjoy being a servant to the public I serve. It has been my profound honor and privilege to wear the badge this many years.

I collect old police service revolvers and absolutely love engaging in the monthly police combat matches our  PD puts on. Sometimes the old fella manages to place going up against the kids Glock Pistols. The local S.O. issues the Glock 21 and the PD issues the Smith & Wesson M&P .45 Pistol. And what does the Old School Po-Po carry? Why, he's packing his old 1959 vintage Colt Official Police .38 Service Revolver. This is backed up by his Colt Metropolitan MK III .38. Last cop with a six-gun and have been for many years now. My Heavenly Father protected me and loving parents gave me my Colt OP on Christmas Eve 1971. Its been my duty gun all these years. Grand-Fathered in by benevolent supervisors I once trained.

Didn't mean to wear my welcome out with the fine members and readers here at the DW Forum.

Yours, ever respectfully;

Davidlaugh

Welcome to the dwf-sign!  Thanks for sharing that story.  Being a revolver nut I love the fact that you are still carrying one as a duty weapon!  Have you contracted dwasyet?  You will if you hang around here very long.buy-now

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Wow!  41 years with the same revolver.  Thanks for the great story.  It's a great way to start my day.

welcome to the forum.  Beware of dwas.  It strikes without warning,  laugh but it's a lot of fun.

I'm sure your old Colts will perform just fine, should the occasion ever come along. I've got the cousin to your Metropolitan, a .357 Lawman MK III. Right now, I've just got the snubby, I sold the 4" last year.

I'm keeping my eye open for a Metropolitan, but so far a clean example is proving tough to find for a reasonable price. Typical story, but the hunt is half the fun.laugh

Welcome and thanks for your years of service!!

I find it fantastic that they "let" you keep the ole 6-shooter as a duty. I love it that you reffered to the "po-po" .. not a term that I ever used , but my wife does and now my teenage daughter has taken up the term. Now we just need to work on getting you to try out a nice DW 357.

By the way, there is a colt custom target with slab sides that visits every gun show. Its a high dollar item, but it sure would be fun to put that up to other at the PD.

PS... we like pictures... of all sorts.. well of all sorts of guns

Soap Box, Ballot Box, Ammo Box

in that order.

David, welcome to the forum and the world of DW from the hills of the volunteer state. That is a neat story you shared with us, of course not knowing the age of the members it would be hard to say but I would guess that the largest percentage are like you and I, what I call seasoned citizens with a true love of revolvers. I can feel my age more and more every day. Welcome and enjoy!

Howdy David and welcome. Most people today prefer the auto pistols. It's nice to see people that still love the wheel guns. I guess some of us are just old fashion. We have to keep the wheel guns alive.

While I'm not yet a senior I have a strong attachement to revolvers, and quite frankly prefer any of my revolvers over any of my autos.  I've been told by my kids that I'm stuck in the past and prehaps I am, but its fun back here.cool

Hi Dave,

From one PoPo to another, welcome!  My hats off to you for your 40+ years of dedicated LE service.  I only have 23 years on the job.  My first issued piece was a S&W Model 10.

Stay safe and keep them young whipper snappers in line  🙂
