I saw my 1st Dan Wesson Revolver in 1987. It was a Blued .357 with 4 Barrels in a presentation case.  I couldn't afford it at the time but never forgot how intrigued I was with it, but never had the opportunity to own one until recently.  I have just acquired a blued .357 with original factory checkered walnut grips and a 2.5" barrel at an estate auction.  The frame is marked Dan Wesson Arms, Monson, Mass USA. The serial number is 252448. The vented barrel shroud is marked Dan Wesson Arms, 357 Magnum ctg. I would appreciate any information on this pistol such as model, date of mfg. etc.  I'm looking forward to be a part of this forum with other Dan Wesson Revolver enthusiasts.

Welcome from Wisconsin, not sure of MFG. date but if it does not have a full rib on the bottom of the barrel it is a 15-2V if it does have the full rib on bottom it is a 15-2VH.

dwf-welcome aboard!smile

There is no absolute way to determine the date of manufacture unfortunately, but through our Serial Number Registry, we have been able to narrow it down a bit. Yours was likely born in 1978.

If you are able to, we'd love to see some cool-picsof your recent acquisition!cool

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it.  There is a full lug under the barrel, but I figure all 2.5" barrels would have this to protect the cartridge ejector rod.  It also has an adjustable rear sight which I think makes it a target model.  There was nothing additional that came with the pistol. no manual or tools of any kind so I'll be looking to educate myself on everything about this pistol. I just think it odd that it has the "Target" grips and adjustable sights with a 2.5" barrel.  I wonder if it was configured that way from the factory or if it was part of a Pistol Pac and the other components have disappeared over time?

Welcome to the web site. If you want to learn about a Dan Wesson these guys are the ones to ask.

The gun can become a target gun with the switch of a shroud/barrel. You have the grip and sights. I am guessing that is the reason why most were sold and purchased this way. It could also become a pack gun if you would to decide to accuire multiple barrel/shrouds. You can also make it a carry gun by just changing the grips. Enjoy you have something special.

EBay is the best place to find Dan Wesson items. Gunbroker is the place to find more guns. You must have a barrel tool for proper care of your gun. When you eject cases, keep the pointer and middle finger of your left hand pushing against the cylinder to keep it open. If it starts to close while extended,  the star will put nasty scratches on the sideplate and gouges on the back of the recoil shield which is part of the sideplate. Holding the gun in your right hand, tilt it to the left or it will try to close.

If the end of the muzzle is perpendicular you have a vent heavy shroud. If the bottom of the Lug is slanted it is a vent or standard shroud. In the 21/2" barrel there is very little difference.
