I shot a Dan Wesson years ago while in college. An old friend of mine had one and his was stolen from a gunsmith's shop along wiht many other guns. Recently, I started looking for one and found this forum...thought I should educate myself before I buy.

I live in Alaska and thought I would start looking for a 357, 41 or 44. Were many made in SS for all calibers? Don't laugh but a 357 is not the first choice for bear country. A 41 is not the easiest to get bullets for and the 44 would make the most sense. But I was thinking a 357 would be good for a lot of things.

Welcome to the Forum, Stainless is very common in .357 (Model 715) and pretty common in .44 Magnum (Model 744). .41 Magnum is pretty uncommon.

A 7445 would be about the biggest Stainless "Thumper" you'd find short of a .500.

I'll second that, the 7445 has plenty of THUMP to it! You won't be sorry if you find one.

Don't discount the 45LC either if you are lucky enough to locate one. I produced some loads that are Ruger rated and the Dan is strong enough to handle that have some serious thump too. I hope to carry my 45LC as my deer revolver this year. It is still very conveniant to carry with the 6"VH barrell assembly. Good luck on your pursuit of more Dans

If anyone has a larger caliber in SS I would be happy to look at it and possibly take it off your hands. Â All of the supermags appear to be 1.6" in cartridge length. Â ANy problems reloading those lengths in straight walled cartridges? Â I have had a few issues with large old NE rounds and reloading...thin and quirky.
