I joined here to learn about Dan Wesson guns.  What better way than join you folks.   think I'm going to be joining you in more ways than one.  I'm about to become a Dan Wesson gun owner and I get gun fevers easily...

I've seen my first DW in my local gun shop and I adored it as soon as I held it.  It's a 357 magnum and I think the barrel was 6-7- or maybe 8 in.  The medallion on the grip had DW on it.  It is blued and looks good.  However, after reading some things on here, I'm concerned that I wasn't given the correct info on this gun.  Were there any 357 Magnums made with a non-removable barrel? Am I asking this in the wrong place?  Point me to the right place if I am.

Thanks,

First- Welcome, and yes the Palmer era produced fixed barrel revolvers.  Just enter fixed barrel in the search box, get a drink, and start reading!  Glad to have you on the DWF.

Welcome to DWF, as noted, there were Fixed Barrel (FB) models produced. With the exception of the non-interchangeable barrel assembly, they still have all the accuracy, strength, and durability of a Dan Wesson revolver.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome.  I appreciate the info, very much.  I just wish one of you were going to be with me tomorrow when I check out the DW.  I don't know much about the workings and technical stuff of guns, but I know how to shoot them and I do enjoy it.  I'm, shall we just say, an "older" female and over the past couple of years, I've gotten gun fever.  I started out buying guns because it looked like we Americans might have that right taken from us.  The only gun I had was a Ruger single-six convertible. I bought it used about 1988, from an old farmer type at a flea market where people sold guns from the trunk of their cars. It had a side holster, with a gun belt that had bullet slots all across the back of it, cowboy style.  I still love and shoot that gun. If I get this DW I'm thinking about, it will be my 6th gun I've bought in 2 years

I'm happy to be here!

Let me take this chance to welcome you. You are making a great choice with the Dan Wesson line.

Dans are pretty robust and can take a likin' and keep on tickin'. First of all use your normal buying common sense. Does it look and feel right? Check the lock up, but don't dry fire it. Look it over. Does everything appear to line up correctly. Do all the moving parts move freely when they are supposed to and stop moving when they are supposed to? I'm less concerned with the finish (although that can certainly effect value) and more concerned with the mechanics.

Take a look at this thread for a good buying guide.

https://www.danwessonforum.com/forum/revolvers/revolver-checkout-how-to-tell-if-a-particular-specimen-is-any-good/

I'm excited for you to get your first Dan Wesson. Of course, you do realize that once you tell us you have it we are going to bug you for cool-pics. Oh, and look out fordwas(Dan Wesson Acquisition Syndrome)! It can't be cured.

Thanks for your welcome and the link.  I already have PGAS (pretty gun acquisition syndrome) and Dans sure fit!  They are pretty guns.  I thought I was done buying guns, and moved on to stocking ammo.....THEN I saw that DAN!  Oh well, everybody needs just one more gun, right?

Welcome to DWF.

Like most shooting forums, we don't often get the chance to welcome a Woman to our world.

Ask away with questions, we have plenty of help, this is the way with every new Member at DWF.

Thanks, Steve, for your warm welcome.  You guys are all Gentlemen, and I feel right at home among you.  The information I have received has been so very helpful and I appreciate the extra time the ones who have responded to my questions have taken even I don't speak "gun" as well y'all do.  I'm going today to check out that DW I found and now I feel well armed, pun intended, with valuable information on what to look for and what to watch out for.  I'm very excited, now, to perhaps, owning my first Dan!

Wisdom is merely the realization of how little one knows, therefore I am wise.
