I registered two years ago when I became interested in my DW .357 model 15-2 with a 6" barrel after I purchased it from a long time friend.  I had always carried a S&W revolver and later a .40 cal auto during my 25 years with the LAPD, and then there after retirement from L.A., with the Nevada Division of Investigations for another 4 years until I finally threw in the towel.  Now I live the good life and have started collecting to enhance my current DW revolver.

So far I have obtained a 2", a 4", 8" barrels, along with a carrying case, and miscellaneous collectable tools and printed matter.  Today I joined Dan's Club and became a site sponsor so I feel I can finally ask a question.  I am such a novice with Dan Wesson that I have many, many questions and will ask them when I can.  Todays question is what is the size of the screw for the later model rear sight?  I recently purchased a sight mount and when I can afford one will purchase either a regular scope or a red dot scope.  The mount I found is a vintage clamp on from MGW, but it does require the removal of the rear sight with the placement of a longer screw into the elevation screw hole to hold it to the revolver at the rear while the clamp secures it to the barrel shroud forward.

I tried to purchase a Burris clamp on mount on Ebay, but it finally sold for over $250.  Amazing!!

Any help will be appreciated.  Thanks for reading, and sorry for being so gabby.

Welcome to DWF, no Member ever needs to upgrade to Site Supporter just to ask a question, but thank you for your support to DWF. You have accumulated some very nice extras already.

Sorry, but I don't know the thread count on that rear elevation screw, I'm someone will have that info for you soon. $250 is a pretty scary number for the Burris mount, I owned one a few years ago and thought is was the best of the clamp on mounts.

Finally, don't worry about being gabby, this is a pretty chatty Forum

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Welcome to the forum.  I think you'll find that these guns are as simple as it gets in the revolver arena, so once you have a few of your questions answered you'll have your DW torn apart and back together in no time.  To answer your question, the thread size for the elevation screw in the rear sight is a 6-48.  You'll just need to determine the length you need for the mount.  Brownell's has them and I'll shoot you some info. on another place when I can find the link.  When you get a chance post up a pic so we can see what you're working on!

Welcome to the DWF and thank you for jumping in as a site supporter. I think Steve and harly covered the basics. There are a bunch of folks here with a ton of DW knowledge, so ask away!

Thank you Harly.  The info on the screw is exactly what I needed to know.  I found a seller on Ebay that sells a small assortment of handgun screws at a decent price.  Thanks again.
