Hello Everyone,

Im new to the forum and somewhat to Dan wessons, but not to shooting. When my father passed a few years ago I inherited his Monson 14-2 with 6 and 4 inch barrels. Since then I acquired a Monson 15-2 with the 8" full lug shroud. I love shooting them and hope to acquire some more as I find them and some more barrels/scope mounts. I look forward to learning more here.

Best regards,

K128

Thank you all for the wecome. I'm feeling very blessed on this awesome Sunday because I just walked out of the shop with a palmer plant 445 supermag in decent shape for a decent price. Half lug vent rib shroud with the built in comp cut into the shroud. I'm a fan of the full underlug but for the price I'm not complaining. The shop said its a 7.5" barrel, but I didnt think they came in half inch increments. Feels good to add another Dan to the stable and I cant wait to learn more about it. And yes pics to follow I promise haha.

Congrats!  The shroud is probably 7.5”, but the barrel is likely 8”.  You’ve probably got an 8” BA.  Maybe share a pic?

Actually, being a comp shroud, it's likely a 6" barrel. On comp shrouds, the barrel actually ends just before the rear end of the front sight.  But yes, we'd sure love to see some cool-pics of that one & your other two!  drool

Im now seeing charger fan is correct. What I thought was a knurled barrel nut is an access to the comp chamber. Deep in there is the actual barrel nut. The shroud is only 6 7/8". I guess I'm gona need a special barrel wrench for this guy.  As promised..... pictures.

Has some flame cutting but doesnt look terrible. I have never seen flame cutting in person before today, so I could be wrong.

Flame cutting a little is perfectly normal and not a problem. It hardens and stops cutting. Light bullets can cause flame cutting. There are factory tools for reaching the barrel nut inside the shroud if you didn't get one with the gun. DW probably has them or look on eBay. Maybe someone on the forum has an extra.

Welcome to the forum from Ocala.

Ole dog, thank you for the welcome and reassurance. Unfortunately all I got was the pistol...no box/papers/tools. If someone has a spare to sell I'm all ears.

Did they not relief cut the cylinder on the 445s? Both my 357s have the inlet chambers in the cylinder.
