I have a model 715 DW, which was my first handgun purchased around 97-98.

dwf-welcome aboard Al, glad to have you here.smile

My daughter visited various areas in Australia for a couple months about this time last year & spent a couple weeks in Byron Bay, which if memory serves, is somewhere south of you? She told me that she loved the beautiful beaches, and especially loved the unique wildlife in your area.

Welcome aboard Al.

It will be interesting to get your views on the gun control craziness that is going on currently in the states. Much of the ant-gun rhetoric here reminds me of what transpired in Australia a number of years ago.

My nephew, and forum member freerider04, spent his R&R Down Under a few years ago. He said it was for the fishing, I suspect it was for the Shelias! wink

Oh, by the way...... we like pictures!

To the paranoid people who check behind shower curtains for murderers:

if you find one...what's your plan?

Welcome,

Show, some pic's of your Dan if you have them. I saw on the internet pictures of piles of guns that had to be turned-in in Australia, did that happen? Hope that doesn't happen here. If you can't comment I understand.dwf-welcome

Cheers,

thanks for your well wishes.

yeah Byron is a nice place.  about 8-900klm away.

i will post up some pics of the old girl.....which i found some paper work saying i purchased in 94.

the gun control measures i remember well.

had a mossberg 12g pump action.....handed in and purchased a 688 remington straight away.

most people i know of did the same thing with the money that was handed out.

then the capacity laws came into play later, so all magazines over 10 and handguns over 38cal (unless you had a legit reason) were scrapped.  we did get paid for them though.  but like most things its only the honest law abiding person that had them registered anyway that handed them in.  Thats life.

Hey guys, new to the forum and new to Dan Wesson, but not new to the firearm world, I am a firearm's rights advocate, and want to see the 2nd Amendment upheld forever.

Thanks,

Bryan.

Welcome to both of you!  So what up with your 715?  You mentioned parts not sure what can ship and what can't but we will see what we can do!

You must show us those Dan's!

My understanding is that private individuals can send each other "machine parts" as long as the specific part is not named as a controlled item, and there is no commercial (for profit) aspect. Several times I have sent "machine parts" to Canadian friends, with no discussion of how we became friends.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

thanks for your warm welcomes.

this site is great.

spent most of last night going over some of the older chatter.....really good.

I have found most of the dealers ect wont send parts overseas.....bugger because you have some great gear avail for DW.  some of the sights from EWK look great...and he replied to my emails, but unfortunatly are unable to send to me direct.  thats the rulesbroken-computer

i was at the club yesterday and noticed that my 715fb wanted to seperate its self....well not that bad then.  it had shifted and started to undo itself--loads we not that hot lol2 6 grains of ap70 with a 158grain swc.  so when i got home i unscrewed it.... i tried to upload pics but it didnt work so stay tuned.......but it got me thinking......make it so that its like the other DW with interchangeable barrels....the locating pin is in the frame (ground off, but im sure it can be replaced).  has anyone done this?  then the only huge obsticle will be to get barrels and shrouds on a brand of handgun that is rare here.mad  the gap is huge in mine (alway has been) and reading around this could be one of the faults....who knows.   It shoots ok for me and its been mine since 94....with no major issues yet.

pics to follow as soon as i work out how on this site.

I guess I just learned that a fixed barrel isn't necessarily fixed.  Hmm...

I haven't had the barrel off either one of my FB guns as of yet, so I can't offer any sure-fire advise, so mainly speculation. I would imagine that no FB gun would have a locating pin...it would be hard to spin the shroud onto the frame with a pin in the way.wink

Regarding the gap problem, you may be able to have a gunsmith fix that. From what I can tell by looking at mine, the barrel appears to be press fit into the shroud. If I'm right, then a gunsmith could probably heat the BA in an oven, then use a barrel tool to rotate the barrel clockwise in the shroud, to tighten up the gap. Once the appropriate gap is achieved, use some Loctite on the threads to permanently hold it in place in the frame.

.38 Spl is definitely possible in DW, but not very common. Watch out for the possibility that a .38 Spl shroud can be put on a .357, and presented as a .38 to the unwary.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.
