The last two pictures were from today (when it has the black grip on it). I had just cleaned and lubricated it, and decided to pop on the grip with the finger grooves. Figured it'd improve handling as opposed to the slippery wooden grip.

If you thought you'd like the gun, then shot it and loved it- you didn't pay too much and $400 is fair for both sides for a 14-2.

Welcome to the forum from another Southeast PA member. I agree with Ron the $400 price was fair, and really even better if you got the 2 nice Pachmayr grips along with it. By the 5 digit serial # I think it would fall more towards the mid 70s maybe around 1976.

Nice piece! You'll enjoy it. Got a barrel wrench? If not, get over to EWK Arms and get one.
When I bought my first Dan about 18 years ago, it came with nothing but the gun w/4 inch barrel. I set it up for a couple years before getting it out to shoot it (I had other toys to play with). It shot OK but when I finally got around to purchasing a barrel tool, I discovered that the barrel nut was just barely snug. I probably could've turned it with my fingers if I had thought of trying.

That's a very nice gun. In my neck of the woods the price would qualify as "very good".
You will love shooting and owning it. I predict you will soon be looking for additional barrel assemblies or even additional calibers. There's a huge variety to explore in the DW revolver world. Enjoy!

Thanks everyone for the input! I had actually written a post with quotations to answer some questions... but it disappeared upon clicking submit. Not sure what happened, but that's okay... I apologize for the double post if it happens.
It didn't come with a barrel tool, so I'll have to look into that and get one. I might be lucky for now though, as it seems like the previous owner kept her nice and tight in the right areas. I really don't have any complaints, but I am definitely very new to the idea of measuring a cylinder gap. That's something I'll have to become proficient with.
As far as the purchase, it came with the two rubber grips seen later in the photo album. So, it's pretty nice to already have a little variety in terms of grips. After I cleaned it, I put on the rubber grooved ones.. mostly because I'm betting they'll help ever so slightly with accuracy and because I won't have to worry about getting solvents/oils on the nice wooden one.
So it seems like it's at the latest made in 1978? I was at first a little put-back by the serial listing because mine only has five digits... but I guess that just means it was one of the earlier models! That's pretty cool, in my opinion, and helps explain the wonderful 70's look. If I can find some .357 and .38 special soon, I plan to spend a nice long day at the range practicing with it!

What you have there is a nice mid-late 70's 14-2. It has recessed chambers and the overtravel screw in the trigger, exactly right for that period. Finish looks pretty nice, and you have some extra grips as well. FYI, that Pachmayr Gripper alone is about a $75 item on eBay.
Suggest you get your barrel wrench from EWK Arms, any of the DW plastic wrenches are crap and are often a disaster waiting to happen.
At $400, I think you did very well, Welcome to the Forum
