I think a while ago I was asked about my case. We all have our different ways to house our DWs. Â Not much new under the sun. Here are my thoughts on transporting my Dan Wesson WidowMaker. In fact all my handguns travel in these cases. Storage and presentation are different.
Â
I had a brief stint shipping computers (big things back then) to international trade shows. And be there to make sure the system behaved. I learned a lesson. Custom Anvil cases. Pack it so you can just throw it on the ground and laugh.
Â
Ready to go, anywhere.
Â
Â
these camera cases are about $35-$50, and last a lifetime. Very cheap insurance.
Â
ÂÂ
I took out the middle layer
Â
Â
And got a stiffer foam for the customization. I donât want any movement. Donât remember where I got it, probably from a packing box.
Â
Here is the middle Iâve used forever.
Â
ÂÂ
I want good, tight compression when I snap the case shut. You need a bit of experimentation to see how proud you need to stand each item. Easier than it sounds. The speedloaders & case are full depth. The other pieces are custom depths, like scope, mounts, 6â shroud & 2â dickhead travel as one piece. Hereâs how I did it.
Â
So from the back
Â
ÂÂ
You can see I cut right through for all silhouettes. Then shaved them and glued them back. (Shoot has a great tutorial for foam shapers)
Â
Â
I have my H&K P9S that has a little different travel arrangement. It comes in its own case, never used other than at home.
Â
Â
So its camera case is a wee bit different. The middle comes as a pre-cut module â ½ inch cubes? I use it for the outer inner.
Â
Â
And use the foam from its original box as the centerpiece.
Â
Â
This case is easily configured and used for transporting other handguns in a similar manner. Guess you could the foam out of the PP if you wanted.
