Has anyone had any luck re-blueing , and does anyone have any input whether or not its a good idea or just leave it alone ? Would love some input , just picked up a 15-2 with a 6 inch barrel , has original box , manual , tool , and shim .Â

Welcome to the forum. I'm new to the Dan Wesson revolvers but have read a great deal in the past couple months. I haven't read anything about fading blue finish being an issue unless you're talking about the "Barney"/purple effect some get. If that's what it is I'd leave it alone. Some people like the two tone purple/black. A photo of the 15-2's condition would make it easier to advise whether to re-blue or not. Without seeing it, my gut feeling is leave the 15-2 alone though. So post a picture or two.

thanks for the reply < yes the " barney " purple is what i am talking about . Great shooter , took it out yesterday and fired 50 rounds of .38 special .Â

Some say that the Barney will reappear in time on a reblue. There are several reasons put forth as to why some frames Barney. What is not usually realized is that all small frame guns have a different hue than the shrouds, cylinder or sideplate. They are of different steel and manufacturing techniques than the investment cast frames. Look at what appears to be perfect blueing in sunlight and you will notice the difference.
  As far as value is concerned an original gun is worth more than a reblue. Even if cosmetically challenged the reblue will probably not add as much value as it cost. However, a scratched and rusted sideplate can be polished and reblued because they never matched the frame to begin with. As long as the damage is not extreme. Ditto the shrouds. Most Barney is an even shade of plum but a few are mottled and pinkish. Those I would reblue if I owned one.Â
