I regularly inspect my handguns and clean even if they haven't been to the range.  Before putting them away in the suitcase/pac, I wipe them down with a oily rag.  I am wondering do any of you use VCI paper to wrap you barrels or revolvers for longer term storage??

I'm thinking of ordering some of this stuff for the barrel assemblies that I don't shoot often.

they should let them hunt, I have answered, yes – remembering that it was
one of the best parts of my education – *make* them hunters.”

To the paranoid people who check behind shower curtains for murderers:

if you find one...what's your plan?

I am sure this is not really the kind of Storage you are talking. But I have only one Dan Wesson. So I made this little stand. It is just open displayed in My Cannon/ Gun Room. It is a safe/Locked secure Room. So I can do this safely and securely.

I do know I will never store a Firearm in any type of case, Soft or hard. For any extended period. I have seen bad results from this method. Yes most of the time it can be done without any issues. But I just prefer not to take the chance. Have seen quite a few nice Firearms tucked away like that, forgotten about, and they did not fair well.

When my Dad passed last year. I found a Brand new never fired Remington Wingmaster 28 gauge in a hard case with that foam. It was rusted pretty bad. i am sure other factors helped it along also. But I do know if it had been open and visible. It likely would not have happened.

I use VCI cards in all my gun cases. They are 1"x3" thin cardboard wafers that are used in tackle boxes to prevent rust. We have Menards home improvement stores in Wisconsin. They can be found on their website. Very low cost and they last between 6 months to a year depending on how often you open the case. There will be no wrapping, just place them next to what you want protected.

I live in North Central Florida. It is as humid as anywhere in the nation. In order to be comforable the air conditioning is on 24/7 except for several months when the heat is on. Both remove moisture. Nothing in an air conditioned house here rusts. Bare metal might over a long time but a blued gun will not. We do not open the windows in those balmy months because of the humidity. Still, vigilance and oiling is a good precaution.

In Mid East coast FLA here. We live the same as Ole Dog does, never open. the windows, even the two weeks power went out for hurricane. ALLERGIES. Enough said. I have a Golden Rod 110v electronic dehumidifier in the safe. Humidity is always low. Guns are lightly oiled and in gun rugs and checked often. Just my way to doing things.

Also in a home which runs AC 10-12 months of the year....

I use DampRid in all my safes to pull the remaining moisture out.  Wax and oil take care of the rest; I like Boeshield for longer term storage- lubricates and waxes in one application.

Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....
