We (my wife and I) finally finished all of our travel and activities involved with our son Andrew's deployment to the Persian Gulf. You may not know that he is a Gunners Mate II in the USCG, and is now officially on the ground in Bahrain. He assisgned to a 110' Island Class Cutter assigned to Patrol Forces South West Asia. Their missions include protection of the Iraqui oil terminals in the Persian Gulf, interdiction of terrorism activities in the Persian Gulf, anti-piracy activities (oh yeah!) in the entire South West Asia area, and much more. After some in-country briefings, he will begin his first patrol within a week, most likely.

Typically, he is thrilled to now command 2 twin .50 cal macine guns, a 25 MM rapid fire cannon, and a MK 19 Grenade launcher. I think someone finally topped IHMSA.

Please pray for ALL our Military, present, past, and future

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Playing with the cool firepower would sure be a fun part of the job.Laugh May your son's tour be as smooth & as uneventful as possible…borderline boredom. Although I'm sure he doesn't want it that way.

I give a heartfelt thank you to your son, and all our service men & women, for the courageous & often thankless job they do for us all.

(edited for a better flag smiley, thanks Jody)

God bless all of our Servicemen/Women. I wish them all a safe journey and return home.

Wisdom is merely the realization of how little one knows, therefore I am wise.

Steve:

Sounds to me like your son has a very dangerous assignment.  Hopefully he can stay out of harms way.  Our prayers go with him.

We were at the airport seeing him and 10 others off, only family there. The 3 officers going went off somewhere, we ended up buying lunch for our son and six others and my wife gave goodbye hugs all around. These kids (two not even 21) were so happy to have someone there for them, it almost made you want to cry.

For this a grateful Nation pays $400-500/week

Where do they come from?

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Steve,

Many thanks to your son and you as a family for the sacrifices made for the freedoms so many in America are taking for granted or even willingly offering to give back up.  My wife and I were in the Dallas airport last December sitting there waiting on luggage and witnessed a reunion between a young serviceman and his wife/daughter I suppose.  We were just watching from a distance as the bustle in the airport droned on.  It was apparent that the man had just returned from a tour of duty.  It was very exhilirating to witness and at the same time sad as there was not one other person there welcoming him back.

I really do appreciate our servicemen and women and thank you, your wife and especially your son and will add them all to our prayers.
