Just got a 8 inch 15-2 with VH barrel. Any advice on a holster size that works? 8 inch Python or smith maybe?
Any advice appreciated.
Thanks

My best fit has been those for the "Ruger GP 100"

They seem to fit the V-H's square lug better than the Smith 686s & so on.

I'm not sure if there's an 8" though I've got 4" & 6".

I didn't know how to use it.”

You can put a shorter barrel on the frame for a holster. Lol.

Thanks and never thought about GP 100 though I don't think they made an 8 inch variant.

Ole dog, I like the way you think....

I'm a big fan of Diamond D Leather (Wasilla, AK) for my Dan Wesson holsters.

In leather, they make the holster to fit DW!

Great people to work with...it might take a while for them to get one made.

I have the chest holster for DW .44 8" that was on sale hanging on the wall.  All the other DW holsters were ones I ordered and waited to get made.

I had them make a hip flap holster for that .44 with 4VH.

My most recent DW hip holster from them is for small frame 6VH, but I went with the brown color rather than my usual tan.  Looks pretty good.  I will have another one made for 4VH when my piggy bank fills up again after a couple of other planned purchases.

We have several holsters of theirs for other handguns and have always been very happy with the products.  I even had them make me a sling in the brown color with my initials on it for a Kimber .22 rifle.

Good Luck.

EDIT: I wasn't always into "good leather".  My first DW was a 15 with 6V.  I found a Hunter leather holster in the used gear box.  The fit was loose enough that I had a loop of nylon string that went round the revolver and the hold down strap went through the loop.  Otherwise, the gun could slip out even with the strap snapped.  I used that rig for a LOT of Montana wilderness trail miles!

Diamond D has two sides of the business, the diamond d leather (leather side) and the diamond d outdoors for the ballistic nylon chest rigs.  I ordered up one of their nylon chest rigs for my 744 and wasn't happy with the fit even after having the gun crammed into it for a week to stretch the material.  Got in touch with customer service and they worked with me to make it right.  They have since sent me their newest design which was originally for the s&w X frame guns but it fits the 744 nicely.  What baffled the CS rep was he used his blued DW 44 mag to test the holster I sent back and it fit nicely.  Either way great people to work with and look forward to trying their leather.

It does seem strange that CS rep's DW44 fit OK, but yours did not.  I try to be sure to state the leather holsters are made to fit one gun; the nylon holsters are made to fit many within certain shapes & sizes.  My nylon holsters fit pretty good for me (Ruger SRH in .480 Ruger 7.5" and another for a Ruger GP100 .357 6") but are not nearly as close of fit as my leather holsters.  I think the nylon holsters form fit a bit with use.  Yours did not for some reason?

I'd been waiting for them to come out with the nylon chest holster for the S&W X frame...any weather outfit.  I mentioned this to a one of the staff and was told for some unknown reason he thought I'd be disappointed in the fit & carry feel of my 4" .500 in nylon.  I revamped my wish list and when I was bucks up, I purchased a Guide's Choice in leather. No waiting for that holster!  I wanted my initials put on the strap, unfortunately there was a wait period for that work.  I "needed" to carry that gun to the range on a certain date and was a little sad.  The nice lady said to just take the holster as it was and when the strap with initials was ready, they would exchange it for me.  I returned the loaner strap in new condition.  Pretty good CS!

What was the hurry to get the .500 into service?  The range I go to had a brown bear sow and cub frequenting the range.  The word was put out it'd be a good idea to be suitably armed while on the range even if we were not shooting.  The Wife had specifically bought me the .500 years before as bear protection (it even has a bear engraved in the side!)...I'd never live down the backlash if I was attacked by a known bear and didn't have that gun available.  We saw bear sign off and on that season.  No one was attacked and the bears seemed to have moved on.

Ya it was a weird thing that it didn't fit.  In my opinion the holster I got was slightly undersized enough that my gun wouldn't settle into it.  The nylon barely covered the trigger.  But again I can't stress this enough, the CS rep was on the ball, did a great job, and actually cared.  I was just really bummed out that I didn't get to use it on my turkey hunting trip, but that's my fault for waiting so long to make a decision on what to buy.

I'm glad you didn't need your .44 to defend against a mad turkey!

I have an 8V BA on my .44.  I tried putting it in the holster for the Ruger SRH .480, 7.5".  The gun does not go in far enough.  There was no protection for the rear sight, and the trigger was not well covered.

I also tried to put the .44 in the holster for a Ruger GP100 .357, 6".  Again, the gun would not fit correctly, even worse!

Note: these holsters have open bottoms and are nylon.

After putting everything away, I wondered how the DW.44 would fit in the leather holster for my S&W .500.  It fits pretty good!  Not perfect, but pretty good...better than the other holsters.

I think I'll stick with the Diamond D leather holsters (chest & hip) for my DWs, both large frame and small frame, all in blue.  For me the fit is just right.

Moon Zappa: "I like leather!"

If the weather is bad, I'll carry something else, in SS and nylon.

PS: I like your front sight.  I tried factory yellow, but it "flared" in bright sunlight for me.  I've been thinking some of the newer front sights might not have that problem.  Quick sight picture at short range.
