Bob at DW hit this thing out of the park! Had him make me a custom 10" 44 mag barrel assembly along with drilling and tapping the shroud for the scope mount. Took less than 2 weeks from placing the order. The silhouette cuts and engravings on the shroud came out fantastic!

Took off work tomorrow to sight this bad boy in at 120 yards. Got a Bushnell 2-6 pistol scope on it. Any advice for a first time scoped pistol shooter?...

Only thing I don’t like is how loose the barrel wobbles in the frame. Once the nut is snug, there’s no movement but I’ve never seen so much play on any DW barrels before. Will see how it shoots tomorrow 😬

There’s also some surface rust on the scope mount but I’m going to have my local gunsmith cerakote it in a grey/silver color to match rest of the gun.

That shroud is VERY nice!

Please tell us about the scope mount.

Pistol Scope tips:  Look to see the scope is parallax free at ___ yards;  then shoot at that distance. Try to use the same anchor points (I like my jaw on my shoulder) so that your eye lines up in the same location time after time. Push the pistol out to where any internal shadow just disappears.

Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....

Thanks! It’s a DW drill n tap scope mount. Has 3 screws that hold it on the shroud.

Thanks for the tip! It’s got a fixed parallax - not adjustable but it should be good enough for my needs and at distances I’m shooting out to.

Making sure I keep the gun at the same distance and my eye at the same position each time will be difficult I suspect but I’m up for the challenge. Just need to practice.

I’m interested to see how well the scope holds up to the recoil. It cost me like $120 so it better work. With that long heavy shroud it should tame the recoil a bit and reduce the wear and tear on the scope I hope

Ugh My fingers are crossed that this massive barrel will limit the abuse on this scope. I will be sighting it in this afternoon so I will report back.

WOW! I can honestly say I’m speechless. This revolver is just insanely accurate.

Took my first 2 shots at 25 yards to see where it was on paper. First shot on left, adjusted the windage and second shot on the right. Super lucky I didn’t have to adjust it too much.

Then I went out to 100 yards and it was shooting a tad high so I walked it down a bit. It definitely took me some time to figure out the best distance to position my eyes due to the long eye relief (20+ inches). The further back the better it seemed. I settled on 4X instead of 6X.

This is where I was blown away. Put my 8" steel at 120 yards and was ringing it just about every shot! I wish I could upload videos as I took some videos showing the steel plate swinging and ringing. Just unbelievable accuracy.

This is a screenshot from the video. Red arrow pointing to the 8" plate. iPhone 6 camera zoom maxed out lol:

It also helped to have a VERY light grip on the gun to avoid shaking the crosshairs etc. It’s so damn long and heavy that I essentially just placed my hand on the gun to pull the trigger and let the gun soak up the recoil.

Here’s some screenshots of the video showing the muzzle flip. It looks extreme due to me essentially not even gripping the gun but it wasn’t bad.

Recoil made the scope slide forward a bit and hit the scope mount creating a small scuff/indentation. I need to be better at checking the scope rings for tightness. I also didn’t want to crank it down so tight that I break the tube. But so far so good!!

I need to bring a mat next time to make it more comfortable for my elbows on the table. Also something to rest the butt of the gun - I was using a soft pistol case to rest the butt.

All in all it was a fantastic day at the range. Had a couple guys shooting high end 6.5CM rifles that couldn’t believe I was hitting the steel with a pistol lmao. Definitely took some practice to get there.

Trigger finger is a tad sore from shooting 100+ rounds of full house magnum loads!

Thankfully, when hunting you may only have to fire once.

True. This isn’t my hunting gun though. Henry 44 rifle is my deer gun in Maine.

Did you lap the rings?

I did not....I was just reading about that earlier this morning. I was lazy about checking the rings for tightness and I probably could have cranked the screws down a bit more. I might go the cheap easy route first and try some friction tape or grip tape to see if that helps lock it in before I attempt lapping the rings.

Don't tighten the rings on the tube too much before lapping them.

Roger that. I might try some friction tape from HD first before I attempt lapping them. Cheap and easy to do.

I've had a Burris on my 500 for years- probably a few hundred rounds with no ill affect.  It'll be fine.

Yeah I was very happy with the Bushnell 2-6. Never lost zero and held up to 100+ rounds of my warm 240 gr reloads. Great scope for the money.

I tend to "Just a little bit more." on screws, so bought torque wrenches to work on my projects.  I have several scope projects that need to be worked on and have been trying to clear some $ for a lapping kit before I get to work.  I hope lapping and correct torque will keep things from moving (and not stripping!).

Not sure how much you would use it, but Kokopelli Products has the best lapping kit I've ever used and use them for mounting all my riflescopes.
