Good friend of mine gifted this to me the other day, it's great to have good friends! Couldn't get pics to post so I added them as attachments. Well the attachments didn't work either. Anyway he gave me a 4" 44v barrel in the orginal box he had from the 90's. Think the price is about $92 on the sticker that's on it.

Great friend!  I think you'll like the DW 4" .44

Back in the '80s I picked up a VH 4" for mine and always liked the feel.  Especially with the factory combat grip. I drug my feet on getting leather for all my DWs for many years.

I recently had Diamond D Leather make up a hip holster with flap for DW .44 in 4VH  I mostly switch to SS handguns when the weather is going to be bad and all of my DW are blued.  The flap gives the gun some more protection.  In a previous discussion on here about DW holsters a poster noted the strap on his Diamond D hip holster was not optimal for his shooting.  On my holster the flap can be removed.  It has a hammer thong to retain the gun instead of the strap.

Diamond D "sometimes" makes a belt cartridge holder.  They don't catalog these and are hit and miss when they are in stock.  They had none for the .44 when I picked up the above holster.  When I picked up my next holster (DW small frame 6VH) they had one of the .44 cartridge holders in the back room.  Makes a nice outfit but $$$.  They only make them in tan.  Not to be confused with the cartridge holders that fit on the chest holster.

I tried the yellow front sight on my 4" thinking I'd most likely been in dark timber if I needed to use the gun for defense.  The idea was the yellow would be easier to see...and it was.  But with any sunlight the yellow sight would flare the light and make a good sight picture for me impossible.

Nice to have buddies like that!

indeed.

unless one falls in my lap, I've pretty much given up on finding a 4" barrel for my blue 44.

Not VH, but still nice to have. I also need to buy holsters, I will look at Diamond D.

Figured out how to get pics uploaded. He also had this custom 45 double barrel that is mine now, trying to do some research but finding nothing.

That SxS rifle looks to be made from a WW Greener double barrel or copy thereof. I don't get any immediate returns on the R.E. Stallcup as a gunmaker.  Maybe he was a lesser-known/local gunsmith? I'm guessing it was made by lining a 12 gauge with 45-70 (as 45 Government is a 45-70) but you should only use trapdoor loads as the more modern loads may be a bit too much. There is probably evidence of the liner at either end of the barrels; a tube in a tube usually leaves a seam unless the smith was very talented. Single shot rifle shooters sometimes use SxS rifles with black powder centerfire cartridges.

Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....
