OfflineIf you are shooting a lot of shorts, ie 38s in a model 40 or 44 mags in a 445, you could be getting a carbon ring in the chamber from the shorts that us preventing the full size SM cartridges from fully seating into the chamber. If they are a bit proud, the case head will protrude and drag on the recoil shield and cause issues similar to what is described.

A good cleaning with a brass brush in a drill and some solvent (non flamable kind) will remove that ring. ÂÂ

Exactly what I did before the shoot because I was shooting 44S and 44Ms.  This was 2nd shoot since acquiring it.
I think I need to take it apart and polish/sand the firing pin as it has a slight mushroom on the tip.  Do I sand back to a fine point?  or make sure the tip is flat?
