Are you sure the serial number is 14693, and not 146930. 14693 would be a porkchop gun and there is no crane lock. The cylinder assembly slides off when the shroud is taken off. You must have a 15-2. A new crane lock may need to be flattened on the sides to fit in the little groove on the crane. Rub it on a stone until it fits.
Models 11, 12, 14, and 15 (38 Special 8 and 9 too) have a flange on the shroud that looks like a porkchop bone. The flange has a dimple on it that fits on a bump on the frame to align the sight on the muzzle with the rear sight. The later 14-2 and 15-2 have no flange on the shroud and the shroud is located by a hole in the frame end of the shroud that fits over a roll pin in the frame. To remove the cylinder requires the sideplate to be removed.

Like Ole Dog said, when the barrel assembly is detached, the part protruding downward looks like a pork chop bone.
Congratulations, hence the nickname "Porkchop".

Maybe he thought that since it slides off it was missing the crane lock? I personally believe the ability to slide the cylinder assembly off without removing the sideplate is a plus.
I must agree! When I blew apart my first 15-2 for a good scrubbing, and then the subsequent post range cleanings, I just assumed all small frame DW's were alike...THEN when I started taking down my first Porkchop, starting first of course with removing the BA (like I do with my 15-2)...I wuz like WOAH! I don't have to pull the side plate to remove the crane & cylinder! BONUS!
But of course, in the end, I still removed the side plate to clean & lube those inner workings that day. (And same with each of my other subsequent 'Chops), I love the satisfaction of knowing they're clean & lubed. Regardless, it's pretty cool that you can get the crane off (and back on) a 'Chop without having to remove the side plate.
