I've had the chance to do some comparison of two clamp on scope mounts for Dan Wesson revolvers, the B Square and the Burris

Here's my 2-6x mounted on the B Square, and below that on the Burris

The Burris is by far my favorite. It allows mounting the scope much lower, is easier to take off and remount without removing the scope from the mount, and is nicer looking. Unfortunately, it is no longer made and fairly difficult to find.

One advantage with the B Square is that it will mount on both small and large frame DW's, the Burris will not. It is also much more widely available, and uses Weaver rings, which may be a little easier to install.

The finished product:

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Thanks for the comparison.  If I recall correctly, there have been many questions abut mounts over the past several months.

Also, that's a fine looking set up and revolver you have there.

Boy, there's a big height difference between the two, I didn't know that before. Great info to know, Steve.occasion

Steve,

Nice comparison.  I do not possess a Burris, but it looks like if I ever find one I need to obtain it.  I do have a few B-Squares and they are definitelly high.

Nice comparision pics.

I have a blued Burris. I can't remember where I got it, but the allen head screws are rounded and I never got around to looking for new ones.

If any of you guys know what thread size is and where I could order some, please enlighten me.

If you take one of your old ones out, you may be able to match it with new ones at the hardware store.

Top is old B-Square no longer available, middle is current B-Square mount and bottom is current DW that requires shroud to be Drilled &Tapped. Sorry about quality of picture, my digital camera is 10 year old Sony. The new B-Square mount sit's too high in my opinion causing to much devation of impact point at verious ranges. The DW D&T mount is only way to go in my book.  I guess I will order a new mount for the 715 and see if I can get some of my money back by selling the new B-Square mount, probably $30 will get it delivered that will save someone $10 or more.

My 744 came with a scope and the shroud is drilled and tapped.
