Are you a Collector or an Accumulator?

I just read an article about collecting Ruger's on the Gun Blast site which I found interesting.  Here's a link to both of them:

Collecting Ruger's Part 1

Collecting Ruger's Part 2

So the question is are you a Dan Wesson collector or an accumulator?  I think I started out as an accumulator but at this point I'm pretty specific in what I'm looking for.  I don't have an issue with shooting any of my guns although I do have a few unfired in the box...

While I really like my small frame DW's I have developed quite a fondness for the large frame guns. That means the 7360 is next on my watch list.

I think we did this one before here on the DWF.... I'm definately an accumulator with collector tendencies Laugh...

I have a lot of spare stuff, but I'm thinning the guns down to one or two of each model.

I am a collector, I guess, with these qualifications:

1) I don't need to have one of everything (well, maybe I do, but I could never afford them all)

2) Everything I own now has a reason/rationale. I have bought guns because they were interesting, inexpensive, or on impulse. Virtually all of those are gone now, all the remainders have a special meaning or purpose.

3) I like a sort of "theme". I'm working on a variety of 15-2 4VH's, mainly because it's my favorite revolver configuration. After I finish some work on #4, I will probably be in the market for another (a beater) to do some playing with DuraCote.

But, the bottom line is, everything is still a shooter, paying a premium for NIB doesn't work for me.

Pistol-wise, I own two non-DW's

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Don't worry Jody, you're secret's safe with me….I won't tell IHMSA80x80 about these.lol2

Ok,

ok,

I consider myself a Collector today…whereas a year ago, I would have thought of myself mainly as an accumulator.  Late last year(sort of as an initial plan), I decided to try to focus my DW collection starting from the earliest models & work myself up from there. I find the early years (the Porkchop years) particularly fascinating thus far & hope to become profecient (or at least a little better in the understanding of early DW's). Although I wouldn't intenionally pass up on another later DW offering, should it come along at a DWASprice…my insanity does have it's bounds, ya know.Wink  rofl

Currently, I've got four or five other 'Chops on my want list before I'm ready to commit to later models…Big Grin …yep… it's DWAS  in action, I tell ya.Embarassed

My first plan was to get a Dan in each caliber.  I only need the following at this point:

.38 Special
.22 Mag
.32-20
.360 DW
.460 Roland

CF, I'm sure you have the best handle on the Pork Chop section.  I do like those and sort of regret not picking up one of those NIB chops a year or so ago. There certainly seem to be a lot variances in the early years.

Steve, I'm certainly glad we got you pasted your self imposed 10 gun limit! Cool  My favorite configuration is the large frame guns with the VH4 installed.  Although I did enjoy shooting the 740V8S as well!

Blacktop I think 'Accumulating Collector' describes us all! Laugh

The cool thing about Dan Wesson's is you can collect/accumulate not only revolvers (and 1911 if you desired) but also the shrouds.  With the shrouds it would take a while to get all the different variations (Standard, Vented, Vent Heavy, Heavy) for the 15-2 not to mention the compensated assemblies.

The fixed barrels are pretty cool as well!

Where will it stop?

I guess I am also an accumulating collector of sorts?  Driven by uncontrollable DWAS It remains difficult to stay focused Big Grin.  I started out with Dan's by purchasing my first ever NIB Dan Wesson 445SM.  It was a goal of many years of waiting that finally came to realization a number of years ago.  While focusing on that goal I did much reading on the Supermags and came to desire one of each caliber to have a "complete set"  The only one I'll likely never own is the 460SM of which there was only one or two ever built as a prototype.  Since this time it has become a goal to obtain each caliber in both vented and VH and blued and stainless.   There are still holes in the collection but as time passes the holes get smaller.  Many other guns have left my stable in pursuit of this goal.  I do have a desire for the more obscure representations of the revolvers when I am able to find them and have opted to replace more common ones in the collection and "upgrade" along the way.  It is rare anymore to add a gun without selling one in its place.  Just my two cents..

I am not sure which I qualify for (accumulator or collector) but I do want them all. Which of course will never happen but I do keep a diligent eye out for calibers and models I do not have, although finances usually dictate what I get to bring home. I am not sure what is on the top of my list but any good deal on something I don't have or even one I do have will be hard to pass up if the pocket will stand it. I already have most of the easily found and lesser expensive models so the quest gets more difficult and costly but a chronic case of DWAS coupled with a awesome support group keep the dream alive.

Another thing that I like about collecting \ accumulating DW's is the uniqueness \ cool factor of them.  Doesn't hurt that they are so accurate!

Too late...such blasphemy.

You all know I shoot all my guns, even the rare (gee, what an overused word these days) Palmer .414 SuperMag. I have always been a shooter, the guns I obtained for my collection have all been acquired for a purpose, mostly handgun silhouette. But then, there is the collector in me, always with an eye towards something different. These I bought with the intention of shooting also...nothing is squirreled away.

I will never get all the guns I desire...the list just seems to be as long today as it was 25 years ago...as fundage is the biggest ptoblem, plus YOU GUYS driving up the prices of Dan Wessons. poke Used to be you could find them fairly cheap, not anymore. Years ago I would never have fathomed SuperMags going for over $1200. You all need to take up golf.

Not sure where I fall in all this, Charger where and what are you parting with???  Some say that I am complosive in the search for Dan! Like others here I do have few Like nib, though the beaters are some of my favorites. Do have a wish list and have picked some parts BA's that really dont match anyting so waiting and watching!
