There's a gun up for auction, that has a slash in the serial number. here's the link.

s / 00XXXX

Have I just noticed this type of serial marking or is this something special.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Looks like the barrel gap has been too small at some point, drag marks on the face of the cylinder.  Don't know anything about serial no.

Exactly what I thought, but Dan's are tough; it probably still works just fine.

I have a few with the slash.  Maybe Eric can comment as to the timing and reasoning for that change.

I think those drag marks are just the proud part of a cylinder.  Now I need to go look at my SNs for slashes.

Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....

I am not sure but, first there was just an S, then ( and I am not sure of the time frame ) am S/ , then a S D , then  the 357 S . Or something like that. There is no great significance or special meaning. Same gun, same quality. IMHO.

I have seen an auction gun that had a standard 6-digit s/n with no "S" lettering...I did have a pic until my photo host site lost it for me. But yes, Ole Dog, I believe you're correct with the sequence.
