Mdl 15 vs 15-2 side plate compatibility. Are these interchangeable? I saw on the forum that the 14 would not work on a 15.  I can't find that post any more. Thank you!

Definitely not interchangeable. No “pork chop” side plate will fit a 15-2 or later DW as there’s no recess for the crane lock to fit into. Also, the fit of side plates is not as generic as it would seem.

Thank you for the response! That is what I thought.

I see them thrown around in parts descriptions on E-bay and Gun Broker.

I picked up a 15-2 V4(?) with a side plate that was cracked for $300. The guy had told me that someone had tried to weld the plate. I saw heat marks, but it came off in two pieces. I ordered one from Numrich Arms for a 15 and just canceled the order before they shipped.

I see the part for the crane lock that you mentioned. I saw it in a previous post the difference.

Yes, because of the crane lock needed on the dash 2s the sideplate of a porkchop will not work. Ignorant or disreputable sellers are a problem. Sideplates are one of the few items on a Dan that are fitted. They are fitted before they are polished so it is very hard to find a sideplate that will work right. I used to buy bares frames and build them out into finished guns but unless you can get the original sideplate it is not worth the effort. Prior to 1986 dash 2 sideplates often would break where the cylinder stop is press fit into the sideplate. Either welding, braising or loctiting the two pieces together is perhaps the best solution. I have a collection of sideplates to go through if I need to find one to fit. I have one frame that I cannot find a good fit to. Often a sideplate will fit but not look right. It works for the purpose of a usable firearm but is  cosmetically deficient.

Too bad someone can't reverse engineer sideplates out of plexiglass and we could have a working firearm cutaway. wow

Which begs the question of; Will Teflon Spray on the internal parts be slick enough prevent the moving parts from gouging a plexiglass sideplate?

Jeweled internals would be cool to see behind the plexiglass!
