Is a DW fixed barrel just like any other fixed barrel?  It just looks like a normal shroud and barrel minus the nut...  How is everything attached to the frame?

Mars, thanks for posting theCool Pics

Shoot, I can't decide how it's held on. I know there's an open area between the barrel & shroud (don't know how deep it is), because when I get barrel cleaner in there, it seeps out for quite a while afterward.

I have a hunch that the barrel is separate from the shroud & is screwed in with a reverse rifling rod/tool...something that slips into the rifling grooves to act as a wrench, of sorts. But that's only my hunch, hopefully we can find out one day.

Excellent pics, thanks for posting those!occasion  It sure is a beauty sitting there, shining in the sun.Cool

I need to find one of those, so I can have one more piece in the DWAS puzzle.Laugh You'd think that since they were made in the 90's, that they would be sort of common on the auction sites, but nooo...

Ok, so here's the first FB gun I was fortunate enough to obtain. A seldom fired gun with 'bluing so deep, I can see my ancestors in there'.Big Grin

Looking back on these nice very nice.   I too have tried to figure out how the barrels and shrouds were attached.  If I ever come up with a beater it may be time to see!

There is a discussion thread around here somewhere that I was gonna link to, but darned if I can find it.Embarassed So I'll just post some pics…at least I'm good at that.lol2

These are from a member who was kind enough to stop by & share some pics of a Comp FB gun he bought. He then later decided he'd like to have an interchangeable setup for it, so he had a smith remove this for him. There's an article somewhere stating that these barrels are installed with 100+ ft lbs of torque.Surprised

If the Gunsmith removed the Fixed barrel, what about index hole/pin on frame and

standard BA ?

I assumed that the smith drilled an index hole in the frame & pressed a pin in there for him. Wouldn't be too tough to do, I would think. The hardest part will be getting it positioned properly.

Good looking 714 you've got there, DWA!
