Dan Wesson did not do them "in-house".   There was a nickeled Dan that was for sale recently that had a warranty repair ticket on the nickel plating.   I should've made a note of who it was.

It's still there...

Dan Wesson Arms Model 15 .357 Magnum Revolver Factory Nickel - Revolvers at GunBroker.com : 1214730325

Looks like the plating company was (photo #94) Benton & Co. Inc.

Too bad a lot of the nickel is so damaged on the shrouds of that gun, otherwise I would love to have it.

Either the M is an upside down W, the fellow stamping it is dyslexic and thought the W was the M , or the M stands for Model.  I think it is the latter. 😲

To me, that looks like an aftermarket coating like cerekote or similar. It's hard to tell, for certain, from pictures but the trigger looks coated as well.

Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....

if it’s an aftermarket Coating, it’s extremely well done
Is there any way to definitively tell if there has been a Coating applied?
The trigger just looks brand new to me… the gun is pristine unfired

It's just my opinion from one picture but without seeing it in person, no, I can't tell definitively if it's after market or OEM.

so my question is, is there any way to determine definitively if it’s an aftermarket coding?

There’s a company that does amazing refinish work. I had a nickel shotgun redone what are you looking for Ford’s custom gun refinishing?
It looks brand new

I've got a factory nickel 15 pac with the crane stamped 15-N (for nickel), but it is shiny bright.

that helps a lot so most likely this is an aftermarket Coating unless DW did it at the factory special order because the 15–M in the crane is 100% done at the factory
Still a bit of a mystery hopefully someone recognizes the 15 – M and can explain the meaning
Thanks again
