OfflineDecided to try my 6 in. 15-2 barrel on my 15-1 DW while I'm trying to analyze some problems with the original 5 3/4 in. barrel. The first barrel nut seats in the recessed shroud as intended, and the second merely protects the extra 1/4 in. of exposed threads beyond the shroud. Kind of a cool retro look.![]()

OfflineYes, it occurs to me that this is indeed a FrankenDan revolver. Frame from 1974, barrel from 1975, and grip from around 1980 or so. Maybe it's just me, but I think it looks really cool. Shoots great!! No worse than mounting a 15-2 or later barrel assembly on a pork chop frame with an adaptor.

It looks like the barrel is not screwed all the way in.

It does kinda create that illusion I guess. I just feel that the extra barrel nut looks better than the leftover 1/4" of exposed threads sticking out. Gap is set at .004, and shows no evidence of movement after a hundred rounds or so.
I know what. You need a A-2 Bird cage on it. I don't know if EWK still sells those. I have one on my 15" barrel. Most gun guys can't believe it. This is an 8" barrel in this pic.![]()

OfflineThat looks like my model 15, this came to me wearing a W12 BA. At first I thought it was supposed to be that way. But research shortly after told me that the 15's came with the flush mounted nuts.

The nut is fluted on the end & is removed with the same size wrench as the W12's.
Yet when I removed it, it has notches in it like a normal 15-2 style nut! I have yet to see another nut like this one, and at this point, I'm not sure if it's a DW part or one someone made.

That's a great looking shot! Mine is pathetic in comparison.

OfflineGreat looking Model 15 in post 9! Very interesting barrel nut. It looks like it can be used on either a pork chop or a standard shroud.
Also, that bird cage thing is growing on me. Do you have a photo of it off the gun? Do you simply hand tighten it, or is there a special tool?

OfflineI've finally been able to make the necessary repairs to the original 5 3/4" barrel on this 15-1, and have reinstalled it. Did some de-burring to the forcing cone entrance and Flex-Honed up to the rifling. Hopefully I'll have no more leading/flaking issues. Looks much better without that extra barrel nut. This is how it looked when I bought it.![]()

Hey Eric I just saw this post on the bird cage. You can tighten it by hand. It fits a .357 mag. barrel and ctg.. Its threaded for a .500 th barrel dia. The inside dia. Is .400 th. It could be bored out. I would make sure you can slide a ctg. through any flash hider or muzzle brake before I shot it. Here are a couple of pics.rn
