been working on a tribute to the awesome 2.5" Shroud and Barrel. It's been a bit of a challenge carving this tough, allergy causing rock of a wood but the results are nice. Will try to do the whole gun if I can find a big enough chunk of it, but its rare any bigger than in a few inches. I'll drill out the barrel and finish the muzzle area soon enough.

Interesting project- thanks for sharing.  That wood sure is black!

Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....

If you're going to drink, don't drive. Don't even putt.

That's some fantastic work. If you can do a whole gun, that'd be amazing!

Its beginning to look as if doing the whole gun out of Ebony or Blackwood is impossible. There's simply no big enough sizes, and gluing these oily woods together is not really recommended for carving purposes. Got a big poplar block that I could use, which can be ebonized afterwards with India Ink, and because that wood shows no discernible grain it resembles metal the way Ebony does when polished. On top of that it'll take a LOT less time to make. As for the grips, I'll use stock target grips for authenticity. All this of course, assuming there is a habitable world still here in six months.

How about Lignum Vitia. SP? World's heaviest wood. They have it in the Florida Keys. It was used for the shaft bearings in nuclear submarines. Oiliest wood in the world too.

Yes, Lignum Vitae. The Tree Of Life. They grow here in the Keys and when in bloom they're decked out in awesome bright blue.  I got a beautiful grip originally for a Security Six that l fitted on an old Korth. Will open up another thread eith the photos.
