OfflineIn my constant search for a moson 722 and 7445 I got the sense to check my normal online haunts for my wish list items where low and behold one of the supermags I didn't want know I wanted popped up in my favorite configuration popped up on cabelas. It was in the Midwest but cabelas ships store to store. So I called them up and got a little gal on the phone that confirmed they had it and it was made in the Monson plant. I asked her what it was gonna cost to transfer it to my cabelas here which she didn't know but she waited on the line while I called the local store on my other phone. With those details sorted out I told let's do it! So she put me on hold to go grab and ring it it up. She came back on the line and informed me that someone else had called in and was in the process of buying it. I told her wait a minute he called in while I was on the phone with you? She said yes. I told her to bad for the other guy I was first in line because I called first, never hung up as we worked the details and to go explain that to the other employee. She agreed, put me on hold and a few nerve wracking minutes later she told me I got it! The irony being the next day four more 357max gun were posted to cabelas with two of them being stainless and both being near new and in the box. Oh well the deed was done and hopefully whoever I beat out on the phone got one of the four near new ones.
Fast foward 4 weeks and I finally have mine home and in hand. The serial number is in the SE0011xx range which I have heard there were some issues with binding. Mine doesn't seam to bind up its just super heavy to pull the hammer back into SA. After chatting with Scout728 I opened the cylinder and checked the hammer resistance and its fairly stiff/strong like its got one hell of a spring inside or really gummy oil. Next I closed the cylinder and pulled the hammer back just enough to get the bolt to drop so that the cylinder spins freely, which it does and without anything dragging that I can feel. I still need to check the barrel gap but then definitely needs a deep cleaning. Since this gun didn't come with any of the accessories I ordered up the EWK wrenchs in both large, and small with a 22 pilot bushing for when I find the right 722 and 7445.
I am gonna assume this isn't too bad when it comes to flame cutting the top strap? Also how's the forcing cone look on the barrel? I still need to check and see just what twist rate barrel it has since Dan Wesson made 3 different ones?
Also is the Bolt for the cylinder supposed to be shaped like that or should it be more flat across the top vs the significant angle it has now?
I managed to scrape together everything I didn't have for reloading the little beasty. To be honest if starline didn't offer brass for the 357 max I probably would have passed on it.

OfflineCorrection to our PM's. I didn't recall it being the .357 SuperMag. As far as heavy springs to pull hammer in SA, I like mine that way. Mine hates CCI rifle Primers. Too many light strikes I have to cycle back around.
Scotchbrite that the forcing cone-end of the barrel and cylinder to remove any buildup, then set the gap. The barrel gap is 0.002" on the proudest chamber.
And IYDK, the SuperMag will shoot .38S and .357 Mag. Just remember to clean the chambers afterwards to clear carbon buildup.
Again, Re-emphasizing to remove that grip before cleaning. Being Stainless, you can use the heavy-duty cleaner...(I swear that Birchwood Gun cleaner is really Gumout Brake Cleaner).
White or Gray Scotchbrite is best for exterior touch-up of brushed stainless finish.

OfflineHad a free moment tonight to check the trigger with my gauge. In SA I averaged 2lb 10.5oz on six pulls which is almost identical to my 744 and 715. Next I tried pulling in DA but it maxed my gauge out at 12lbs only half way through the pull. My 744 also maxes the gauge out but it more at the wall not half way. The 715 actually breaks in DA at 9lb 6.3oz.
I also got the chance to check the current cylinder gap. The .002 went in cleanly and the .003 would just start on a few but would not pass cleanly
