OfflineThis is the SRS .41 Magnum with the extra 8" VH barrel installed. Not really a new gun, but since I had to rezero it, I figured I would try out the unfired barrel. First time I ever put it on the frame. The front sight is the wrong height for the Bomar rear, but I thought I would see how high the gun shot. With the Bomar at it's lowest setting, I started out at 100 meters...way high. Kept going further out until I found the distance it was sighted in at. 300 meters.ÂÂ
Looks like the barrel is going back into the safe until I find another frame for it. I could replace the Bomar with a factory sight, but I like it on the SRS. The only other option is to drill the shroud and install another Lansing hood. Not sure I want to do that to this First Edition gun.

OfflineI beleive he is refering to the vent rib slots, not the shroud slots. This is the typical way of distinguishing barrel/shroud lengths.
Why not leave the Bomar rear on and make your self a new front blade that is talller? I still use the one I made of brass on my 2.5" barrel because it shoots high even with when the rear (both DW and Millet) sights are cranked all the way down. I must add that this is true only when shooting .38 target loads though. The full power .357 shoot lower for me.

OfflineI was referring to the slots in the shroud. The first SuperMags had 4 slots with an 8" barrel. My original .414 SuperMag has a fifth slot under the barrel.
Wonder how many shrouds have 8 slots in them?

I will keep the Bomar on the frame, along with the 10" barrel and hooded front sight, as this was the development gun for the SRS series. Just need to find another frame for the additional VH8 barrel I just tried out. That may not be necessary, as I just thought it would work fine on my VH6 frame.
