OfflineAlright you Dan Wesson historians I have a question? Recently we discussed barrel crowns and I "thought" it was decided that the switch from the original flat crown to the modern recessed crown occurred at the Norwich plant. However I recently picked up a low serial number Monson model 22 which has the recessed crown, I "assumed" maybe the barrel had been replaced. Today looking on GB the twin to my recent acquisition has the same crown. I realise this proves nothing but it does pose the question, Just when did DW start with the recessed crown?

OfflineLB, that's pretty neat that you have one on hand to look at...
My guess is that many of the long barrel 22's (8+ inches) may have been ordered primarily for silhouette/long distance shooting & likewise may have been shipped with every up-to-date theoretical advantage from the factory at the time.Â
This "advantage" was probably proven as a sound idea & seems to have been used as a DW industry standard in later years...in many models & calibers.
