Hello. I have uploaded these scans from an 1972 article about the gap between the cylinder face and the barrel that features an early Dan. I believe have not seen it in here. Enjoy!

Firing without the barrel or sleeve? I’d like to see that.

Yeah, I don’t know if I’d want to try that. With my luck, the bullet would boomerang & come back to smack me in the back of my head.lol2

Thanks for the scans, Albert.occasion

Frankly, firing without the B/A installed sounds incredibly stupid.

I think what they wanted to know is what the shape of the bullet would be if there was no forcing cone to reshape the bullet. I’m facinated to learn the bullet deforms, melts and reconstitutes. Maybe semi autos deserve more of my attention, but their not as sexy.

The velocities of 375-600 out of the cylinder are interesting as well. Nothing but the crimp if any to allow pressure to build. And the statement about leading the threads in the receiver. I would have thought that the bullet would have cleared the threads before becoming that unstable but I can imagine that the cylinder doesn’t offer enough support to the projectile to create any servicable utility. Lucky guy had Dan Wesson on hand to offer what must have been pro bono gun smithing.

I fired my 15-2 once without the barrel. It was a handful.

Sooting with no barrel in place would be interesting to see with a high speed camera. something like the Slow Mo Guys or Smarter Everyday on youtube.
