I recently picked up a PM7-10 and have the opportunity to get one in either 9mm, 40S&W, or .45. The best answer is to get all three, but realistically, which one would be first on your list and why?

In this order:
.45-Classic
9mm-to shoot a lot
I guess I left one out, huh?
When I got my PM-1S, I didn't pay much attention and thought I was getting a PM7. I just knew it was a Stainless DW 1911 in .45 for a good price.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I have the PM7-45 and it is far and away my most treasured firearm. It never jams, and it is wickedly accurate. Plus it is just plain a beautiful firearm. I would go with 45 caliber because that is what the 1911 platform was really designed for. The 1911 platform and 45 caliber are kind of like the distance to first base in baseball -- perfect.
The difference between a citizen and a civilian is that the citizen makes the safety of the body politic his personal responsibility. The civilian does not.
