I don't think there were DW 1911's in the 3-3.5" barrel range. The most compact you will likely find is the CBOB, or VBOB.
One possibility is the Para Ordinance WartHog

I owned one, and found that .45 ACP in that small of a package wasn't for me. The Hawg 9 might be suitable for your needs, but these are 1911 style, not a true 1911. There is virtually none of the parts commonality/interchangeability that you might expect from the 1911.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Well, I got both my 45 Patriot and the RZ-10 filthy today .... The 1911's are fun, especially when you have a bunch of ammo.
I will say that until I get a recoil buffer for the 10mm I won't be shooting it anymore. The recoil is severe on the frame. I shot both factory loads and some reloads I bought local. The reloads appeared light on paper--but in reality they were stought. They also were JHP's and did not feed reliably. I bought 77 of them and shot 27 today. The other 50 will be after the buffer is installed.
The 10mm is no joke-- makes the 45 recoil seem light.
No idea how much 9mm we shot today--the kids and I formed a line and picked up brass !!!

Same day here, the Boy and I took six guns and 500 rounds. Started him
out on the 10mm and 50 rnds after that went straight to the Beretta 9mm,
he said the 9 felt like a BB gun and the 45 auto felt like a 38.

I've never really was a 1911 guy--sure I've had a few over the years, but I never got into them heavy due to the cost of 45 ammo compared to 9mm.
And when you are rapping out thousands upon thousands of rounds every year the savings were substantial--but, now that I'm not doing the steel plate thing anymore--bring on the 1911's in any big caliber .
After a little reading on the WWW, I realize you could spend a lot of time tuning up a 1911 for superior performance. I've worked on my 9mm's and they run like a swiss watch--
Yesterday the Patriot 45 with cheap factory ammo was tossing brass exactly where it should--about 6 feet away and about 4 o'clock from muzzle---Looks like DW tuned it up right.
The RZ-10 was another matter, but then again it is a 10mm--it was slinging brass at 4/5 o'clock also...but it was tossing it about 20 feet away !!! Normally this would be an indication that I need a heavier recoil spring, but with the 10mm I need to do some research.
Anyway, buy a 1911 of any length and go have some fun punching holes !!!
