Ok, I'm starting to entertain the idea of buying a DW 1911.

I see that $1000 and up is the norm.

What should I set my sights on. Entry level 1911's... not interested.

Something that has value now and in the future.

There's so many to choose from!

Thanks, Arlen

DW does not really have "entry level" 1911's. Frequently the better values are on the pre CZ or earlier CZ models, even the used newer manufacture items command a pretty big $$$.

Define your need, Gov't/Commander/Officer?

Stainless or not?

Carry gun, range gun, a little of both?

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

+1 to what SteveCT said, there really is no entry level DW 1911.  You won't be disappointed by any of their 1911's they are all of high quality.  All you really need to do is decide what size you want and what you want to do with the gun.  Calibers are limited to 9mm, 10mm, 45acp and a few 40cal and the elusive 38super.

Anything worth doing is worth doing well.

Just took the plunge myself. Was somewhat flexible in my requirements and picked up a nice Point Man Guardian Duce for, what i thought, was a reasonable deal. I'm very impressed with it.

My wife and I both bought Dan 1911's.  They're so much more accurate than our custom shop Kimber's; we love 'em.

I've often wondered what "Saint Dan" could/would have done in the modern 1911 marketplace. Given the revolutionary approach he took to the established revolver world, you just gotta wonder "what if?"

I think he'd be pretty proud that DW is one of the most respected names in the huge 1911 market.

Good point Steve. Given his penchant for "re-dong" the revolver, there's no telling what he would have done with the basic 1911.
