I bought my DW CBOB from consignment.  The gun was in near-mint condition, had not been fired, and had only a light scratch near the muzzle.  I cleaned it and oiled it heavily.  Then at the range, I got three shots through it before the slide seized on the frame!  So I sent it back to DW in New York.

To their credit, they honored the warrantee and I finally got it back after a month.  They had initially promised a turnaround of less than two weeks, but gunsmithing being what it is, the wait did not bother me.  What did bother me was the very noticeable ding that was put on the slide, just behind the slide stop notch.  This was not a light scratch; this was down into the metal.

I plan on having the gun cerakoted in black, so I'm not going to let it bother me.  But it still just irks me.

That'd get my dander up too. Have never had a gun coated, but wouldn't the marks show up that much in the coating? Just wondering about that. Did you complain at all to CZ about it?

The nick is small enough that  the coating will fill it in.   As far as complaining goes, it would probably get chalked up to "normal wear and tea."

Have you contacted CZ-Dan Wesson about the mark since you got the Cbob back?

When you shoot it again, do not heavily oil it.  That can contribute to issues with tight tolerances.  IMO a light grease on 1911 rails is perfect- I use Slide Glide light.  Get out there and enjoy your Dan- there will be more marks; It's a tool, not a museum piece- go put it (and you) through the paces and the grin will replace the frustration!

Contact them and express your dissatisfaction.  Regardless of how big or small the mark is, it shouldn't come back with any marks, period.

Have you visited the Dan Wesson area of http://www.1911forum.com ? There have been several discussions there about lube for slides on Dan Wesson 1911s. The factory makes specific recommendations for lube especially important breaking in a new pistol.

Also it is just my opinion, but factory service from CZ-Dan Wesson is generally quite well regarded both here and the Dan Wesson forum on 1911forum. Personally I would not post complaints without contacting Norwich to give them an opportunity to address your unhappiness.

Well....I shot the gun today and it functioned flawlessly.  And as I mentioned before, I plan on having the gun cerakoted so the nick is not much of an issue.  Except now the front of the takedown notch is peening, and quite noticeably.  This is after less than 100 rounds.  The front of the slide stop (the part that engages the slide) is cut at a sharp angle--not rounded at all.  I suspect this is the cause of the peening.  I'm not sure what I'm going to do now.

I am officially annoyed.

I might be having some problems with DW service. Is there anyone at DW that you would recommend calling? Names please!

There is a lesson to be learned for all of us...take careful, detailed photos of your gun prior to shipment.

I sent an older Dan 1911 in for some major work and they refinished the entire gun for me, inside and out along with some upgrades and the work I sent it in for in the first place.  The gun is in better than new condition.  I think you should call them and explain what happened, I suspect it got damaged in handling or transit.
