Does anyone know for sure if the build quality is the same from the Heritage to the Valor?

In their marketing, they call out the Valor has polished and hand fitted parts. They mention the exterior is finished to a higher standard. (This is not an exact quote but me paraphrasing)

i called Dan Wesson today and was told this was no longer true and I quote " all Dan Wesson 1911 are made exactly the same".

Someone out there please clarify. THANKS

I have no firsthand (gun in hand) experience with this. My perception, based on what I see in several Forums, is that current manufacture DW 1911's, regardless of model, are finished and fitted to a higher standard than mass production 1911's, but, again, I have no personal knowledge on this.

If you called and got that answer, that is DW's official position. My guess is that they do not want to lose their reputation and position as a manufacturer of a high quality (non custom) 1911 brand

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

There must, however, be something that distinguishes the $1350 Parkerized A2 from the $2200+ Valors and others or the $1300 Heritage from the $3800 Titan. The costs differ so something must set the lower priced guns apart from the higher priced guns and it's not fancy engraving. It may not be the basic fit and finish, but it must be something. Every gun manufacturer has lower and higher priced offerings, or nearly every one.

Hi Sigwolf,

Keith has stated in the past that the attention to fit and finish on all models are of the same high quality. The price variations are due to the specific  design features, options and finishes each model has. Trijicon night sights are 150 more than standard steel sights. Dutytreat finish is 350-400 more than regular stainless...etc

I really enjoy shooting the ones I have.

The Titan is a custom competition gun as are all the Elite series.  They are not your garden variety 1911, but race guns, so you cannot compare them to a Heritage or Valor, apples to oranges comparison.  I have noted very little difference on fit and finish between the Heritage and the Valor.  As stated, the features and upgrades are what separate the Heritage from the Valor.

Anything worth doing is worth doing well.

As an A2 owner, and having handled many other brands, I’m fairly confident that the DW 1911’s are superior to ANY other mass produced 1911 (Springfield, Colt, Kimber, etc). If you want into a 1911 “better” than the DW, you should be checking out the $3000+ custom gun makers.

DW seems to be positioned in between the mass makers and the custom guys. Really good value, IMO..

There are some differences in the features, and a lot of difference in the marketing strategy and profit margins!  confused Know what you're paying for!!
