Is there any down side to mixing Stainless Steel and gun high carbon steal together in the same gun?

I picked up a DW 15-2 and it has a SS hand in it, working against a non SS indexing wheel.  If I change out the wheel for one that is SS will I run into any dis-similar metal issues if reasonably lubricated?

Thanks in advance!

You can't normally just swap those out--they are hand fitted parts.  I highly doubt you will have any issues.

I would not see any issues with the stainless and non stainless parts working together. A couple years ago I sent a blued 15-2 in to the factory for some work, and among other things they replaced the hand and retimed the gun. The hand they installed is stainless steel.

That's because they only make the 715 now.

Quite true. My point is that since the DWF factory guys installed the stainless part in the blued revolver, I take that as an indication that the professionals do not see any potential issues between the two parts working together. I regard the Norwich folks as excellent Dan gunsmiths.

I think Lonwolf is correct. No problemo. You can use a SS cylinder or BA on a blue gun too. Not my cup of tea but...  I have several stainless cylinders in 9mm that I am going to use with porkchop models beside a 715. With its own crane I will have an easily interchangable gun. BTW,  I have several times used used hands  and never had a problem with timing. Because the rachet is a drop in part I thing the hands are mostly fitted identically.  The factory probably is avoiding liability by having a factory fitting. JMHO. I am sure it does not work in ALL cases. New hands on the other hand are very hard steel and a bear to fit. I have avoided that.

Thanks all for the info.  I spent a good bit of time spooking around the internet and picked up a supply of NOS 15-2 parts, all blued.  Still have not found a SS Extractor, but I'll keep looking.

When I talked to my daughter the other night I said "I got you another gun".   At some point she's going to have quite a collection.  She has indicated she need to find a guy that hunts!  She likes all my guns except the 30-06's.

Just not a fan!

Have a great weekend!

The Norwich folks are not gunsmiths, they are Dan Wesson manufacturers !

That's a palomino…^^^^^^^^^^

Not just a palomino, it's a Nightmare. Not only is it ugly, it's a Ford Pinto.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.
