I've come across a guy with a brand new stainless steel 15-2 stainless steel 4 inch brand new in the box. I know its very hard to put a value on something like this as I've never seen a new one. This was made in Monson November 1980. Original box, manual, barrel tool and all. He is currently accepting cash offers. If you had to put a price on this, what would you be asking?

You would love to get this for $500-600

He would like to get as much as possible. Any idea where his offers are right now? This could go for $800-900

And this would be a Model 715

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I'm so firmly stuck in the "Good Old Days", all I can say is, I'm glad I have my DW revolvers, and I'm glad I don't NEED to buy any more. Don't get me wrong, if I stumble across one at a great price, I'll buy something I don't need, or I will pass it along to someone here. I have helped Members here buy locally (to me) several times. One LGS that I visit frequently always knows when I sell one for them, they call me when a DW revolver comes in.

he's set on $950 at this point with an hour and a half drive on my end. He says its not a 715 but an original 15-2 v which is really rare. What do you guys think?

Well, it sure looks like stainless to me. If it's stainless it's a 715. A 15-2 would be blued. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong. What does it say on the box? Do you know what the serial # is?

Stainless DW's were introduced in 1982, no such thing as a "stainless" 15-2, this may be a blued gun that has been refinished.

What is the Serial Number?

Looks stainless to me, from my vantage point. I have seen other 15-2's in the past with a serial number like that, that I suspected as being stainless. I would post pics of those, but my photo host site ate them.frown

Have you removed the side plate for a peek?

I haven't had a chance to look under the side plate. It does indeed look stainless. But wouldn't that make it a 714 or 715? Hes convinced it was made in 1980 because of this patent stickerwp_ss_20150307_0002.pngImage Enlarger

Recessed chambers

A label dated 11/80

Stainless guns came out in early 1982

S/N exactly in the range for 1980 15-2

No "SD" or "357S" leading the S/N

If this is a 1980 Stainless 15-2, it would indeed be a most remarkable gun

Question, if it's been plated, would the chambers still be blued? I can't really tell in the pictures

Based on the photos, if this is a refinished 15-2 (and I offer no further opinion), everything has been very expertly done.

Still a very nice looking gun.

Pull the grip off.  The stainless guns usually have a "SS" cast in a circle in the grip tang.  The lack of the "SS" marking still does not preclude it from being stainless....I'd put my money on it is.  The 11/80 sticker doesn't really have a bearing on when it was made other than it wasn't before 11/80.  They most likely rev'd. the sticker with the latest patent at the time....they wouldn't rev. the sticker again until the next patent, and you'd have to do a patent search to know when that was.  The yolk of the crane with the bead blasted finish looks too original to be anything otherwise.  Pull the grip off and see if there is a "SS" logo - if it's there end of story.

I agree. The roll marks look softened and the satin finishes I have the brush marks go horizontal over the roll marks and front portion of the frame. The gun looks great.
