Steve CT,
That is some good advise for scoping a handgun.
I use 1x dot sights on my handguns.
I took the DW back to the range today and shot a couple groups with some CCI Std. Vel. As I have seen in the past it seems to really prefer the better quality standard velocity ammo.
I am convinced this could still be a great shooter for me but the front sight is not working for me and I don't care for where the finger groove grips put my hands.
I wiped the ick off from the weekend, pushed a dry patch down the bore, and put it back in the safe. I will keep my eyes open for a scope mount or target style front sight. Maybe I'll get lucky and find some non-fingergroved grips for it as well. Fortunately I don't need to be in a hurry.
I included my best target of the day with the MKII for comparison.
I still feel like I should be doing better with the DW, wern't these made for shooting small silhouettes out to 100yds and better ?

Front sights are available from EWK, fiber optic ones that really stand out and gather light even in cloudy conditions. Grips are no problem, ebay and Gunbroker have them all the time. Or you can get beautiful custom grips from LB a member here.
BTW that last target is nothing to sneeze at, from 40 yards off hand.
Glad you are going to keep your Dan. It won't get any less valuable as time passes either.

That was a good target for me.
Unfortunately, they don't all look like that one.
I shot 16 10-shot targets today with the MKII
I usually only get about 1 in 4 that I am not disgusted with
I would have bought one of these from EWK ... but ... sold out

I wonder if they will ever have any more ?

If it was me, the first thing I would do is validate the accuracy of the gun by shooting from a rest at a shorter distance and use that method to select the best ammunition for the gun. If this gun will not put 6 rounds into 1" from a slow fire SA rested position at 25 yards, then the problem IS the gun.
It's important to remember that shooting a 10" revolver is a very different proposition than a MK II. The DW is a heavy revolver to begin with, 10" is even more so. In addition, the MK II grip placement and angle means that a fair percentage of the weight of the gun is directly above the hand. With the revolver, ALL the weight is extended out from your hand, so the MK II has much better balance.
I don't care for the Hogue grip, in a fingergroove grip, the Pachmayr Gripper is a much better grip for me. In a full size grip, the Pachmayr Presentation is a possibility.
If you're having trouble picking up the front sight try a dab of bright poster paint on the rear of the front sight, and consider trying a Patridge front, I'm kind of surprised to see that standard DW front on a 10"barrel.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Steve CT,
I am 90% sure the gun is up to the task.
I have no doubt that the gun layout/ergonomics is what is difficult for me to master.
I have shot very heavy revolvers when I competed in PPC for several years.
I can see the front sight fine, however how it fits into the rear sight and the fact that it's a ramp doesn't work so well for me even with sight black. I will probably order a new front sight or kit from EWK.
thanks,
