So I bought a trigger pull tool and wanted to see what most of my Dan Wesson revolvers were at. I noticed the two guns I bought from one person had what seemed to be real light triggers. Here are examples of some of my guns. I'm most interested in the 7445 It has a very light 1.72LB pull single action. The other gun I got from him is the 741 magnum has 2.38LB trigger pull so i'm assuming he had the trigger done on both guns but he paid special attention to the 7445 since he had the hammer jeweled. Could this be done with just a new spring or would you say this was a professional job or an aftermarket trigger? I do not know if that even is a thing on revolvers.I did notice my model 12 is the third best pull at 2.6LB i'm assuming that's the stock pull weight? Also my nickel 22LR which I was told is not stock pulls 4th best at 2.68LB.  Here are some other guns I did and how they stacked up. The 15-2 had a 3.44LB (do small frame guns have lighter trigger pulls just due to being smaller?) The 40 Supermag 3.46LB and finally my 715CZ 4.02LB's.IMG_4961-1.JPGImage Enlarger

I don't like too light a trigger on a high recoil revolver.

Anything worth doing is worth doing well.

The pull in single action is basically the trigger return spring. And perhaps the sear has been sanded or filed to make a hair trigger. Not supposed to do that to a Dan. The heat treatment on hammer and trigger only hardens the surface. Jeweling reduces the friction of the hammer and can lighten the pull. Below 2 lbs is probably not safe. I have a DW 1911 and a Ruger 1911 that require great disapline to not inadvertently double tap. Their pull is close to 2lb I think. Revolvers won't double tap but you may fire before you are ready.

The Model 11,12 14 and 15 porkchops have the short action trigger. If you use a Wolff trigger return spring it is lighter and smoother in double action. And lighter in SA. The nickel 14 I have also acts like jeweling by cutting down the friction between the lockwork(trigger and hammer) and the frame and sideplate.

I have my long range rifle at about 1.5 lbs trigger pull to help reduce adverse trigger pull input that could negatively affect target hits.  This has worked great in my favor, but you do not put your finger on the trigger until you’re on target and ready to shoot!!!

My .375SM has a super light pull in single action. That gun you definitely keep your finger away until you are ready! It has caught me off guard, surprising me twice before when I was first getting to know the gun. I should get one of those tools & find out what the actual pull is on that gun.

On my 7445, I got the double action pull down to around 7.5 lbs and single action is just under 3 lbs after some spring swaps and light polishing, feels way smoother now.

I know the nickel plating helps with the trigger pull! That 7445 which I sold (wish I had kept that one) It had trigger work done I was told by the person that sold it to me. It sure looked good with the jeweling on the hammer. I also sold it with a extra blue barrel which looked great in the slotted shroudD

My IHMSA edition 22VH10 RAM has a superlight hair trigger.   Super accurate too.    I/Others put many a round in the ceiling as first accidental discharge before remembering how light the pull was,   I put it away.

The small frame 10" Barrel is my favorite length. The accuracy is because of the long sight radius and the light trigger in single action (and of course the tensioned barrel). I prefer the non heavy shroud with the 10". Longer than 10" is hard to hold the barrel steady. They were made to rest on your calf in the Creedmore position. If I was a hunter I would use a shooting stick.

As for double action, Wolff springs, nickel plating and the short hammerfall of the early porkchops cannot be beat.
