OfflineUse some loc-tite to prevent it from moving once in place. I suspect someone tried to remove it to change springs with a pair of vise-grips not realizing you change the spring from the other end. Could be he cross-threaded his grip screw and backed it out that way and messed it up putting it back. Either way I am sure you will have it running in no time.

And yes the main spring will go in from top side after the spring seat is

OfflineI tore it apart and gave it a thorough cleaning. The main spring had been shortened (see comparison photo at bottom). A few questions:
1. I found some scraps of paper? inside of it (see the top 3 images below)… are those supposed to be there, I removed them?
2. The new spring seat doesn't have a screwdriver notch, how am I supposed to screw it in? Thanks for all your assistance.
3. What should I lube the internals up with? I have RemOil, Hoppes No. 9, and Winchester CLP Breakfree Lubricant on hand.

OfflineI put in the old spring seat for now, it fits tight and the slot is convenient for a flathead. In-fact, I found it easier to install the new mainspring through the bottom. I'll keep an eye on it.
Additionally, here's an action shot from yesterday before I tore it down. I have since adjusted the barrel gap tighter. The thinnest feeler gauge I had was 0.10 and I eyeballed it to about 1/2 of that. Notice my gloves... because the previous time I fired it... well... OUCH!
I'll report back after I shoot it since the rebuild.
