According to this receipt I'm thinking I overpaid at twice that amount lol! Seller sold it, dear ol dad bought it new, he said it was unfired. Well it's not now, 30 rounds down the tubes so far. 25 year old PMC factory loads are still strong! All 50 were in the box. I accidentally took 67 pictures, could barely keep from posting em all. What a chunk of metal. Even without ammo it's deadly. Whoa I'm impressed, 10" bbl I was hitting 6" steel circle 50 yds regularly, crisp trigger. What does the dark steel tool (circle) fit on? The soft case is an Allen, do you think it was from the factory? I probably doubt it. When I'm tightening the barrel against the .006 gauge do I just touch it or snug it down where I can barely get it out?

When setting the barrel gap, here's my procedure:
Set the gap with the gauge so that the gauge can be pulled out and re-inserted.
Now, you have to check all of the other cylinder positions since this is not a Norwich made gun.
So, pull the gauge out, pull the trigger and check the next cylinder position. If all is well, do it again.
If you ever come to a position where you cannot insert the gauge, readjust your gap at this position and start all over again with the checking.
When you've pulled the trigger 6 times and have gotten the gauge inserted in every position, you are done.

That "dark steel tool" is for an early production 15-2, which requires another part to work for removing the barrel nut. This piece has no connection to the 744, and frankly, I'd be very careful using the "plastic/fantastic" POS barrel tool that came with the 744.
Save yourself a lot of future heartache and buy the EWK Barrel Tool ASAP
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Thanks I will buy the EWK barrel removal tool, I can tell the plastic is gonna break at any time. I need to decide what else I will order from EWK first.

Welcome to the forum! That is a nice Dan. I think you already know you will never be sorry to own or shoot it. The 10 inch barrel is pretty rare. the 44s are my favorite for fun shooting! Enjoy.

Wow, pretty and sweet. I have two myself. Unused is nice but they are just about indestructable and retain their value well. Hand cannon is my favorite description.If that is your first dan, hang on for a wild ride. It is called Dan Wesson Acquisition Syndrome. The first symptom of the incurable affliction is an intense desire for a 4"VH shroud. Sounds like your father may be an enabler. If so, give him a big hug.

That is a very nice 744, you take good pics! That Pachmayr grip with the DW medallions is quite rare also, Pachmayrs are common but very rarely with the DW medallions.

hello I own a Dan Wesson and I have a problem DWAS! Yep I need/want a 4" bbl next, why? Why not? So I guess I need some wood grips, ammo, probably be reloading for the 44, or maybe shooting some aluminum blazer-anything wrong with that? I like to shoot the guns and get familiar with em, this one will be in the regular rotation, but could be expensive to shoot if I don't use reloads or Blazer. I'm looking forward to some long range shooting. Thanks for the replies fellas, and possibly ladies!
