Does anyone know if the .44 mag barrels were factory ported?
I have not seen this one yet but I'm told one of the two 8" barrels is ported which I'm trying hard to grasp given the construction of the gun, shroud and ability to set b/c gap.

Yes, and they should only be used on the shrouds that have power ports.

Monson made 44/744's all had ported shrouds for 4, 6 and 8 inch BA's. The 10 inchers were not ported.
There were ported and non-ported barrels for use with each size shroud except the 10.
Be careful shooting the ported barrels. The cleanup after each session, and yes, it must be done after each session, is a headache, requiring a 12ga bore brush and lots of elbow grease.
I never shoot the ported barrels anymore, it's just not worth it. The compensation is negligible.
