Got some 445 brass off GB and took a look at it today. Alot of it has a redish deposit inside the cases that looks like clay or jewlers rouge. Some of the brass has live primers too. I fired the ones with hot primers and I'm going to tumble the brass and clean it up. Just can't imagine what the deposit could be.
Anything worth doing is worth doing well.

Sounds like somebody went a little heavy on the liquid case polish with their media...
I'd toss all of it in some hot soapy water and let it soak; toss it around a little, rinse it, and then lay it on a dishtowel to dry....
Then do the dishes

Probably jewelers rouge. Can't remember the brand, but someone sells tumbling media with the rouge in it for polishing the brass. I have used some in the past, and it leaves a reddish tint inside the brass. Never had any problem with it.
