OfflineI guess I should have asked for luck before I started! Ha!
However, I am taking apart my newly acquired DW before I shoot it. There was some surface rust outside of the revolver, so I figured I would be greeted with more.

Best method to remove the rust?
Also going to install new Wolff trigger and hammer springs, just waiting for them to come in.
When I took the barrel off, the nut didn't come off, I bought I new one from EWK...any trick to getting it off?
Thanks

OfflineDrop that puppy in some ATF (or mix up some Ed's Red) and let it soak a few days. Then use a toothbrush to clean. Lube, replace springs, and go 'choot it!
When you bought the EWK nut, did you happen to get the wrench as well? If not- you probably should. The best penetrating oil I've used is Kroil. Soak that nut is Kroil for a few days and then go at it with the EWK wrench. The best thing is that the barrel is already separated from the shroud and frame, so worse case- you can carefully cut the nut. (ouch)

Offlineoooh! man if you were gonna blue it, I'd say a sonic cleaner and some red vinegar. go with some ATF and a stiff brush then polish it. you might to order a small parts kit from EWK for the small springs... It looks like it has not eaten into anything to bad though...

OfflineThese pictures are proof positive of why it is so important to open these (safe queen?) guns up and AT LEAST brush out the rust, lint, powder residue, dried up lube ..., lube it up and shoot it.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I can't comment on the past 40 years...but none of my guns ever end up looking like that.
She will be refreshed soon.

OfflineI do have a question in regards to the cylinder.
How do I get it apart?

Also is this little spring going to be included in the EWK Small DW parts pack?

OfflineDavid, the parts list says bolt plunger spring included.
Unscrew the ejector rod from the star, and it should separate. That rod will bend fairly easy,,,just a warning... There is quite a bit of rust so I recommend you use the ATF trick or Kroil to soak it for a while. PB Blaster will work pretty good to, but don't get it everywhere..

OfflineI just realized this is a model 14 porker, correct? The bolt plunger and spring may be different. You can also, get some things from Numrich's.. that is http://www.gunpartscorp.com ..

OfflinePretty amazing what a fairly minimal amount of TLC will do for these Dans. Like Ron said, go send some lead downrange then have a few beers. Be sure to give us a range report!
