Dan Wesson barrels tubes are not crowned . Evidently it doesn't affect accuracy . As long as there is no damage to the inside edges of the end of the barrel nothing needs to be done to the barrel . The damage seems to be the shroud, nut and me maybe the outside edge of the barrel tube. Smiths, Colts ,etc are carefully crowned but the most accurate production handguns made are not . If you don't have a problem with the barrel cylinder gap being to large or small you can just use it as a shooter. You will have half a Dan. The most intrinsic feature of Dan Wessons is all you sacrifice. Personally, I  would cut it off, throw it away, and buy at least four different lengths BAs and make a pistol pack .

I purchased this gun, knowing the barrel nut was damaged, got a very good deal on it, mainly for the gunsmithing project.
I will most likely cut the shroud and replace with 4 inch barrel and shroud.
I haven’t given up yet
I enjoy working on pistols and revolvers. I probably do more gunsmith in than shooting. Just enjoy the mechanics and challenge.
I’m currently building a couple 1911’s using Tissa forge steel frames … they make excellent platforms to build super accurate guns.

Wild thought. Some kind of sealer involved.

Get some MEK & use it (wearing gloves outdoors) to see if the sealant can be dissolved.

When whetted, Thoroughly The stuff evaporates like crazy.

Brace the pistol somehow & apply a LOT of inwards force while banging on the end of the tool you're using while also applying a LOT of torque with a cheater bar of some form.

The secret seems to be solvents, inward pressure into the damaged slots while applying rotating force.

Maybe a hammer drill set with some limited slip. After all the nut is FUBAR.

Matthew Quigley on handguns:

“I said I never had much use for one. Never said

I didn't know how to use it.”
