Seeing Mark’s and mine made exactly the same way leads me to believe these were special order guns from the factory. I’d love to know more about these guns and their special serial numbers.
I'd love to know more also! I wonder if it was a custom order run placed by a gun distributor back then? Kind of how the relationship is between Ruger (and other gun makers), with distributors like TALO, and Lipsey's for example? I just don't know who "JM" might be.

Mine has the same serial number structure, and is exactly one number off of Mark’s gun. Mine is 44-JM-007. Seeing Mark’s and mine made exactly the same way leads me to believe these were special order guns from the factory.
I wasn't a member when this thread made the rounds and missed seeing it. One of the coolest Dan's I've ever seen.

I’m bringing this one back from the past. The Palmer 744 that I mentioned in my forum introduction and bought online at auction on Saturday is the twin to Mark’s gun in this thread. The only exception is that the gun I bought is wearing Pachmayr grips. Mine has the same serial number structure, and is exactly one number off of Mark’s gun. Mine is 44-JM-007. It might be a week or two before it gets delivered to me, but I will start a new thread and post pics if I can figure out how to do so once I have it in my hands. When I first saw the gun online, I thought it was a custom modified gun. Seeing Mark’s and mine made exactly the same way leads me to believe these were special order guns from the factory. I’d love to know more about these guns and their special serial numbers.
Very Nice! Good to know that Palmer factory was still producing custom order and they are still around.
