My Freedom Arms Model 83 (.44 magnum, 7.5" octagonal barrel, Leupold VX-3) is for deer hunting while the Model 97 (.44 special, 4.25" barrel, honed action, fiber optic front sight, round butt grip and frame) is for hiking (lots of hungry black bear in my neck of the woods). For my needs, the Simply Rugged "Chesty Puller" system makes it easily switch holsters depending on my needs and the oxblood color looks great to my eyes.
When I'm out of handloads I'll use Underwood 245gr flat nosed in magnum and special for these, very comparable to my "Elmer" handloads with the exception of the flat nosed rather than semi wadcutters.

That's a great looking pair! Freedom Arms makes some seriously fine handguns, for sure. Thanks for sharing yours with us, I love the octagon barrel on your Model 83. And yes, the holster looks great!

Thanks for the kind words, those are easily my two favorite handguns. Imo, the .44 spl and .44mag are essential when living deep in the Appalachian mountains. I really wish DW would reintroduce the double-action blued .44, I'd buy a short barrel model in a heartbeat!
