Howdy gang! I’ve lurked here off and on for a while, and finally decided to join the forum. I love to shoot guns in general, and my purchasing tastes seem to go in phases. My two oldest boys like to shoot, and we shoot a lot of clays. All 3 of us shoot in the local weekly trap and skeet leagues, and they also shoot 4H shotgun sports. I also am a coach for 4H kids which I absolutely enjoy. I have owned a Dan Wesson in the past that I purchased at a local auction (around 20 years ago), and I sadly never fired it before selling it to fund another purchase. It was a blued 357 Max pistol. I just got through a phase with needing some N frame S&W’s for the collection, and had decided to start looking for and purchasing some DW revolvers. About 3 weeks ago I found a decent 715 6” Monson for sale at a gun shop in the closest big town, and picked it up. My first order of business was to completely disassemble the gun, and give it a thorough cleaning. I soon realized how simple the mechanics are of a DW small frame revolver, and how much simpler and easier they are to work on than other revolvers. I then realized I needed a large frame model. I just purchased at auction an unusual Palmer 744, and hope to have it delivered to me in the next week or two. Once I receive it, I will post more info as I wasn’t sure it was a factory gun. Based on a thread in the odd/unique DW section of the forum, this gun is sequential serial numbered to another members 744, and is made exactly the same as his. This leads me to believe these were possibly special order guns, being that they have unique serial numbers. Anyway, I’m on the way to DWAS, and am already looking for my next DW purchase. Now if I can only figure out how to afford a 741… Glad to be here!

When the 44 mag DW was introduced it became in great demand for IHMSA. A version with IHMSA in the serial number was offered to IHMSA members. They could buy multiple guns. Some had sequencial serial numbers and some had the IHMSA members membership number as a serial number followed by an A, B, C depending on how many guns they ordered. If you tell us the number we can tell you about it.
