OfflineNew to the forum and Dan Wesson firearms. I have recently purchased a DW 44 mag with 8 inch barrel. It is stamped Monson and has 66XX serial #. I have not done alot of research on manufacture date but interested in finding out. I bought the pistol because of the rep for accuracy and the few rounds I have sent dwnrange have not discredited this particular firearm. Any info well be appreciated. thanx in advance

Your 44 was probably born on or around 1981. It also should have a short hammer spur. Enjoy the site.
I agree & may I also
you board.
According to the info currently available, your .44's S/N falls within the "short hammer spur" range.
Personally, I still covet those "shorty 44 DW owners".
Of course, we'd love to see some
of your newly acquired DW...so by all means, show off that .44 if you have 'em...

You guys mentioned the short hammer spur any way to change to the long?
Sure, swap it with a long spur hammer.
An article I read regarding the hammer said that DW changed to the longer style to make it easier to cock the gun when using a scope. I've only seen it mentioned in one article, so I assume that is the only benefit of the longer spur...other than the cool factor.
