Thanks, Ole Dog. The closest thing I've seen to a proof mark on a USA made firearm was on my Grandfather's single shot 12 gage shotgun. If I remember correctly "proof tested" was stamped on the top of the barrel near the breech. Can't remember what make it was, but it was probably made in the early 20th century.
