So would I, I think those are very interesting revolvers. If that one was mine, I'd spend some money restoring and fixing it up.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I went hunting for more pics of that Fitz and found a post on the Colt forum from its owner
He's had some work done on it since the original pic (and apparently it has some interesting history).

Ya know what?
There's no denying that it's a unique & cool gun, but to me, most of it's uniqueness & coolness was in it's existing character. Once the grip frame was "fixed", it lost a lot of that character…
It looked a whole lot more authentic & unique to me, wearing the original Bondo(?) filled wood grips & electrical tape…
"you can't buy respect, it has to be earned" I would have merely replaced the rotted tape, cleaned & oiled the gun, and hit the range!
Thanks for the link, Zundfolge.

Went to a gunshow yesterday afternoon, and picked up this High Standard Sentinel MKII. The tag on it said 'broken'. I brought it home, popped the sideplate off, and just as I suspected, the whole inside looked like it had 35 years of dirt and somebody had poured about 5 times the needed amount of some kind of oil in it, making a sticky tar-like mess. Did a quick 10 minute cleanup and lubed it with ATF now it cycles great.
I bought the ugliest gun in the place, and maybe the cheapest too- $125 out the door. I'm thinking it will be an excellent old shooter, and maybe future candidate for Hotbluer someday. Has a lot of bluing loss but no deep rust pits.

WOW, great deal! I always have an eye open for one of those- I'd go twice that price and still feel good about it.
The great thing about DW's (and the HS's) is that most people have no idea how easy it is to clean/fix/tune-up these guns yourself.
SHHHHH! Keep it to yourself!
